“Damn, they’re still there.”
“Smith and Jones? Get out.”
She moved over to get a better look. “You think they were there all night?”
“If they were, they’re probably pissed off as hell. But at least it means we sold our cover.” He slid out of bed and grabbed his jeans.
Damn. It really was that big. Jaeda dragged her eyes away from his crotch and strapped on her wrist knives. She shoved the garter knife into her purse. “May I ask how you managed to lose your pants?”
“I didn’t lose them, I took them off. Because sleeping in them is uncomfortable.” Before she could open her mouth, he added, “Don’t get all huffy with me, missy. I was over here on my side of the bed, minding my own business. You’re the one who started feeling me up.”
Jaeda narrowed her eyes at him. “You enjoyed it.”
He smirked at her. “Not as much as I wanted to.” He pulled his shirt on and buttoned it, but didn’t tuck it in. “Ready for your walk of shame?”
He gathered up her shoes and handed them to her, then looked down at her, his head cocked. He reached out and tousled her hair with both hands. “There,” he said. “You look sexy. And like you just got laid.”
“Thank you?”
“You’d be thanking me more if it actually happened, trust me.” He held out his hand. “Come on. I’ll go down to the lobby with you and buy you a coffee for the road.”
Jaeda shouldered her purse and resisted the urge to tidy her hair. She also resisted the urge to take his hand. They left the room and walked down the hall and into the elevator, Jaeda still carrying her shoes.
“What?” she said, at his questioning look. “It’s not a real walk of shame if you’re still wearing your shoes.”
Remy grinned at her. “The fact that you even know that makes me respect you so much more. I was beginning to be afraid you were no fun at all.”
“You want fun, next time I’ll really violate you. You’ll be following me around like a little puppy dog after that.”
“I live for the day.”
Veejay. No-shifter zone. Humans only. Why was she having so much trouble remembering that?
Because she’d had such a good time with Remy last night. Or maybe just because of the ginormous morning wood.
They reached the lobby and the elevator doors opened. Luckily, there were very few people around at this hour. Jaeda pretended not to see Smith and Jones lurking behind a pillar as she and Remy headed for the coffee bar in the lobby.
He bought her coffee and walked her to the street door. In the reflection from the glass doors, she could see Smith and Jones approaching.
“Incoming,” Remy murmured, as she had the night before. “Make it look good.”
And then he was kissing her.
It was even better than last night in the bar. Jaeda was pretty sure her toes curled and her lady parts exploded. And Remy’s lips were still there—tasting, caressing, lingering like they’d had the best night ever and he didn’t want to let her go.
He pulled back and smiled at her—a real, non-smirking, heartbreaker of a smile. “Keep your eyes open for tails on the way home. And be careful.”
“My dad would disown me if I wasn’t.”
“Good. Text me when you’re safe home. And when you get to work.”
“They really will think we’re having a thing.”
“Just do it. I don’t want to worry about you all day.”
He kissed her again, softly, and then walked back across the lobby.
Jaeda, lips still tingling, headed out the door.
