Person totally in charge of everything having to do with my damn bar
Remy let out a whistle, and Kitty applauded. Even Brandon looked pleased, when he stopped rolling his eyes. Jason was scowling, and Colt found it in him to feel sorry for the guy. He really did care about Callie, even if he was a dick.
Remy said, “See, I told you she’s your mate. That is the only explanation for her writing this email.”
Colt shook his head. “She’s talking about the construction project, not me.”
They all scoffed at that. “She’s talking about the Hot Leopard,” Kitty said. “And you convinced her to like him. Which awes and disgusts me at the same time.”
Sasquatch said in his low, rumbling voice, “She is talking about you. She is your true mate.”
Everyone stared at him. “How the hell would you know?” Jason snapped.
Squatch shrugged. “I know.”
Kitty said, “He hears voices. They tell him shit.”
Brandon said, “Fuck. Another thing I didn’t know. Now you’re keeping secrets from me?”
Kitty blew him a kiss. “Sorry,” she said. “I forgot.”
“She forgot,” Brandon said to the ceiling.
Kitty said, “They told him to kill the evil panthers but not you, so they’re probably good voices.”
“They don’t talk much now that the panthers are dead,” Squatch rumbled. “But I still see the spirit world.” He turned to Colt. “The spirits say you are meant to be together, but you will have to fight for your love.” He looked at Remy. “All three of you.”
Kitty choked on a sip of beer. “Wait, now, there’s going to be three of them in his relationship? Like a threesome?”
“No!” said Colt, Remy and Jason at the same time.
“Okay then,” Kitty said, holding up her hand. “Just asking. Sheesh.”
Colt raised his hand, like he was in school. “Hello? I’d like to make an official crew report on my love life. I’m going to email Callie—no, fuck. I’m going over there. If anyone texts or calls me while I’m there, I will come home and drop you off the fucking balcony. With your wings tied together, for those of you that have them. Bye now.”
And he hopped over the porch railing and headed for his truck.
He didn’t know what the hell he was going to say to Callie when he got there, but he’d figure it out.
Because Remy was right. If she was his mate, he had a responsibility—and the first thing he needed to know was what she needed.
Squatch followed him over the railing, looking satisfied, and walked off toward his cabin. Just before Colt fired up his truck, he heard Squatch call over his shoulder, “My name is Titan.”
Chapter 22
Callie had expected an email from Colt, or maybe a text or a phone call.
She hadn’t expected him to get in his truck and come over here the second he got her email.
When she looked out the window and saw him pulling into her driveway, her stomach started doing flip-flops.
Did he really care as much as Remy said? He must. Remy wouldn’t make a mistake about a thing like that.
So how did she feel about it? Excited. Terrified. And… a little resentful, maybe. She’d just gotten her life back. She could finally have everything exactly the way she wanted it. Spend time how she wanted. Have her place and her bar how she wanted.
Her whole life had always been about somebody else. And now she’d been on her own for less than two months, and she was already latching onto a guy. It was pathetic.
What if what we wants is to spend time with him? her lynx said wistfully. Could we?
