Monroe whipped out his knife and cut Noah’s zip ties, and then the two of them hauled the unconscious guards into the office, laying them next to their original door guard, who was out cold in his skivvies, since Jace had stolen his uniform.

Jace’s mate, Emma, a curvy dark-haired beauty, was standing inside the door, armed with the metal leg of a busted office chair. Jesse’s mate, Sophia, was crouched in the corner in her tiger form, growling.

Holy hell, he’d forgotten how huge she was. She took up half the freaking room, and she looked pissed off.

As they trussed up the guards and appropriated their weapons, he found out why.

“Tyrone isn’t just trying to take over the pack,” Jace told Noah. “He’s doing it by going after Jesse and having him killed without warning, and without an official challenge. We have to warn him.”

“Then why didn’t he just do it before Jesse left? Why let him leave and go out to the cabin?”

Jace and Emma exchanged looks. A cold abyss opened in the pit of Noah’s stomach.

“They’re going after him there?”

Jace’s face darkened. “Apparently, there’s another pack member who’s the brains behind Tyrone’s coup. He’s associated himself with your shifter hunters, the traitorous fucker.”

Sophia gave an angry snarl.

“Who?” Noah ground out.

“That fucktard Creston,” Emma said.

Noah bared his teeth. “Good. I always wanted to kill him anyway.”

Emma nodded approvingly.

Jace continued, “He’s apparently made a deal with Tyrone. He gets his followers to stage an assault on the cabin, and they get to kill Jesse and make it look like the hunters did it. Tyrone gets alpha without fighting Jesse. In return, Creston and Carson get Tristan and Terin.”

“And Brock,” Noah whispered. “Fuck,” he said. “We have to get out there.”

He started pacing back and forth, unable to stop the snarling. Sophia’s snarling ratcheted up in response.

“That’s enough!” Jace said sharply. Noah felt his alpha mojo pressing down on him, settling his wolf. “You two need to keep it together.”

Noah fought with everything he had to get himself under control. Mina and Brock need you, he kept repeating to himself.

Jace said, “We can’t just race out there. Tyrone has half the pack with him; we’d never get through.”

“We fucking have to do something,” Noah said through his teeth.

“We are,” Jace told him. “Emma managed to get a call out just before they cut the lines and took our phones. Our backup should be here in an hour.”

An hour was a fucking eternity. “What the hell do we do until then?” Noah said. “I can’t just sit here.”

“You’re not going to,” Jace said, shouldering his weapon. “I told you Tyrone has half the pack with him. We’re going to go break the other half out of captivity.”
