She let go of his arm and walked over to where her ball was.
“Need help lining up the shot?” She was getting to the point where she basically knew what to do, but he didn’t mind helping since it gave him another excuse to touch her.
“I’ll try it on my own this time,” she said almost apologetically.
“No problem. I’ll just watch.” He didn’t mind doing that either. She moved with grace and fluidity on the golf course just like she did around the house and when she danced.
He’d recently seen her teaching Molly ballet without her knowing. She’d asked him not to watch until Molly had more practice, but he couldn’t help himself. One day, he’d come home early from work and heard music drifting up from the basement. He’d snuck down the stairs, peeked into the exercise room, and seen Chloe demonstrating how to do a plié.
Golf wasn’t as pretty, but she still moved with grace and confidence.
She got into position and took a swing, but unfortunately, she wasn’t lined up with the flag, and the ball landed to the right of the green in some thick grass.
“Crap!” she shouted and came back over to him.
“It wasn’t a bad hit. It just went in the wrong direction.”
“Will you help me with the next shot?”
“Sure.”
“Should I use the nine iron again?”
“I would suggest the pitching wedge this time so you can really get under the ball.” Get under it. Every time he said those words, his mind veered down the wrong path. He’d been doing that a lot today, thinking about what it would be like to have her under him or on top. He wasn’t picky.
Since she’d only used the pitching wedge one other time, he thought it best to demonstrate again.
“Since the grass is so thick here, you really have to bear down on the ball. If you hit it right, a chunk of grass should come up with it. Watch this.” He dug an extra ball out of his pocket and dropped it into the tall grass. Then using her wedge, he lined himself up with the flag and took a shot. The ball landed nicely on the green and rolled to a stop just short of the hole.
“Wow! And you said you were just ‘decent’ at golf.” She cocked out a hip and shook her head at him with a teasing smile on her face.
He puffed up like a peacock at the compliment. “I didn’t want to brag.”
“That’s very commendable, but I think you’ve earned your bragging rights.”
“Your turn now.”
He came around behind her and placed his hands over hers on the shaft. Shaft. He’d never associated golf with sex until now, and he’d probably never think of the game the same way. Victoria had never played golf with him. She’d gone to the driving range with him early on in their relationship, but she’d never shown any real interest in the sport. He’d resigned himself to playing with his dad and buddies, but playing with Chloe brought a whole new level of enjoyment to the game.
She shuffled her feet in the grass to get situated, and in doing so, her butt brushed against his pelvis. They both froze, and then she glanced over her shoulder, scrunched up her nose, and said, “Sorry.”
Her expression was priceless, and he had to laugh. He took a step back, although he’d liked it right where he had been. With his face close to hers, he said, “Look at the pin and try to judge the distance before you swing.”
She nodded, and her hair brushed his chest, sending up a waft of her fruity-scented shampoo. It wasn’t the first time today he’d thought about burying his face in her hair. He loved everything about it—the color, the length, the way it framed her pretty face.
“Bryce?”
“Yes?”
“You might want to step back a little more.”
“Oh. Right.”
He moved away and admired the look of determination on her face as she took her swing. The ball landed just in front of his practice shot and then rolled right into the hole!
“Ohmigod, ohmigod!!” In her excitement, she leapt at him, and since they were standing on an incline, he lost his balance, and they tumbled backward in a heap.
She was sprawled on top of him in the deep grass, and suddenly it was hard to breathe. She leaned up on her elbows and stared down at him, her hair falling forward and brushing against his neck.
