“I’ll take your word for it,” she said, getting into position. While she maneuvered her body, she was acutely aware of him standing behind her, watching. At least her butt looked good in these shorts. She’d checked in the mirror before she’d left her bedroom.

“Is this good?” she asked over her shoulder.

He took a step closer. “Let me help.”

Suddenly she felt his heat against her back and his arms wrapped around her. That did it. In that instant, she decided she loved golf and wanted to play it all day long!

Then his hands were over hers, and he twisted them around the club until he was satisfied. “It’s important how you grip the shaft—not too hard and not too soft,” he said.

A rush of heat pulsed through her like he’d been talking about his own shaft. She fought hard to keep from wiggling her butt against his pelvis, but if he moved forward another inch, he’d be right there.

“Now you try,” he said, stepping back and taking his heat with him.

She let out a ragged breath and tried to concentrate on the shaft in her hands and not the other shaft. She bent her knees, held her back straight, and with her eyes on the ball, she started to pull back the club.

“Slow and steady,” he said softly.

Ohmigod. If he didn’t stop talking, she’d never be able to hit the damn ball!

The shot of adrenaline he’d given her worked in her favor, and she hit the ball with a satisfying whack. She looked up and watched the tiny white object fly through the air and land softly on the grass several yards back from the flag. Still, it was her first attempt, and she was happy with it.

Apparently, he was too, because she turned around to see him wearing a proud smile. He held up his hand for a high five, which she joyfully gave him.

“Alright! That was great for your first time!”

“You really think so?”

He nodded. “A lot of people wouldn’t have made contact.”

Contact. She liked the sound of that word coming from him and recalled the feel of him wrapped around her. She could use some more contact.

“Ready to go again?” he asked, his eyes sparkling.

God yes! “Sure, but you might need to help me line up.”

“My pleasure.”

Mine too!

Chapter 16

Bryce decided that golf had never been so much fun. After he’d helped Chloe practice her swing at the driving range, she’d agreed to play the nine-hole, par-three course with him. Now, with her beside him, he was driving the golf cart down the edge of the fairway on the fourth hole and smiling like a fool.

“How do you like it so far?” he asked.

“I love it! It’s challenging, but fun.”

He nodded as he parked the cart near her ball. “That’s one of the things I like about it too. No matter how much you play, there’s always room for improvement.”

She smiled, and they both hopped out of the cart. He’d been providing tips on every hole and helping her select which club to use. He was about to pull a club out of her bag when she placed her hand on his forearm and squeezed.

“Don’t tell me this time. Let me decide.”

“Okay,” he said, pleased that she was enjoying this so much. He also noticed she hadn’t let go of his arm while she dug around in the bag with her other hand. He wouldn’t mind if she held onto him like that all day. In fact, they’d been touching each other on and off throughout the day. Him when he was giving instructions, and her when she wanted his attention, like now. He felt a zing every single time, and he wondered if she did too.

“I’m thinking the nine iron,” she said, pulling it out of her bag.

“Good choice.”
