“Everyone would cheat in wereball if they could.” Logan shrugged, pulling out a chair for me. “Some people are too stupid to do it right.”

“Oh, I’m aware you’re a cheating expert. Especially with Yvaine.” Crap. Every time someone brought me up, Logan flipped. “Did you know she had chest pain for weeks? We kept running tests, and couldn’t figure out why.”

I sighed. “We didn’t know we were mates. Either of us.”

“Lucky for you,” Tiziano said sweetly. “At least you had fun with our tutor.”

Logan growled, the twitch back in his right eye.

“Logan, ignore him.” Amaia finally looked up from her laptop. “He’s being overprotective and stupid.”

Tiziano took her honesty with passive hostility by getting up and leaving.

That could’ve been worse.

With his thumb drawing lazy circles over my hand, Logan watched Tiziano’s retreating back. Probably plotting how to turn him into a cadaver. Amusement replaced his scowl when he glanced down at me, taking in my worried state.

“I’m fine, Bunny Doc. Let’s make sure you study.” He leaned forward, pecked my lips, and brushed his nose against mine. “I’ll be right back. I need a snack.”

I settled into my work.

Buried in my notes, I didn’t notice Logan had never returned until I stretched and realized the chair beside me was empty.

I headed for the bathroom, but halfway down the corridor, I stopped.

“…you’re distracting her! Some of us actually need careers,” Tiziano snapped. “We’re not all spoiled rich kids like you.”

“Look, dipshit.” Logan’s voice dropped to that dangerously calm register. “Yvaine’s the love of my fucking life.” I sucked in a breath. “And for whatever reason, you’re important to her. So do us both a favor and stop upsetting my girl every time you open your mouth because it keeps outrunning your brain.”

Tiziano shifted. His clenched fists rose.

Logan didn’t move an inch. “Go on.” He tapped his jaw. “Hit me. Do it with those puny hands.” His smirk was scary now. “So then I can beat the shit out of you.”

Tiziano lowered his arms. “Yvaine won’t stay with a fraud like you once she learns who you really are.”

Logan’s smile dimmed. “She knows what I am.”

“Does she?” Tiziano laughed. “Does she know about Francisca?”

To my shock, Logan shut up.

A cold knot formed in my chest. Francisca…Is that who’s named Don’t Call Her?

Tiziano’s grin sharpened. “That’s what I thought.” He stepped closer. “You’ll terminate, Terminator. I’ll make sure of it.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

YVAINE

Ilove what I studied. With all my heart.

So much that, for a while, I almost forgot about Francisca. I wasn’t going to ask Logan. At least, not yet. I’d wait, give him time to adjust to being in a relationship—he’d never had a serious one before me. He told me back when he was just Rudolph.

Since the others had left a while ago, Logan and I had moved to a small table for two. His knee brushed mine, leaving crackling sparks behind. Not even denim could stop a lycan’s sparks.

He pulled out his laptop, rummaged through his bag, and fished out a crumpled paper, smoothing it with his hand.

“What’s that?” I winced at how the innocent sheet had been treated.
