“Man.” I scrubbed shampoo into my hair, eyes shut, head tilted—showerheads were the right height back home. “Has C always been this annoying?”
“Yeah! He’s worse now!” Killian shouted from the next shower. “Gets laid once, and he nags like a relationship guru.”
I snorted.
“But it’s true, right, Thor?” Killian’s lips quirked. “Mate’s ignoring you?”
I huffed. “Apparently.”
He whistled. “Shit, I’ve never seen you like this. You’re really down bad for a girl?”
“That’s why he spent all night at the gym,” Callum called.
“Probably jerking off to her pictures.”
I considered wiping the floor with their faces.
“Hey, T,” Greg hooted from another shower. “Your mate got any hot friends?”
I snorted. “I don’t think they’re your type. Probably a bunch of nerds.”
“They can’t beat that girl I saw at the Comet campus,” Killian sighed. “She had perfect tits. Like the Moon Goddess sculpted them.”
“Nice ass?” Tank Man added.
“Better than fresh bread.”
The showers erupted in laughter.
“What’s her name? Maybe Bunny Doc knows her. I can get you her number.”
“Don’t know.” Killian shrugged, wrapping a towel around his hips before shutting off the water—he liked staying warm until the last possible second. “I just call her Sweet Pea. Jokes aside, I’d never introduce her to you animals. She doesn’t seem the type to fuck around.”
“Ah, that sucks,” Greg pouted.
The conversation rolled on, drifting into the usual comments about girls. I just chuckled but didn’t join in. Speaking about other chicks couldn’t be a good thing if you were in a relationship, right?
Water streamed down my chest, over the half-moon pendant and my abs, as I reached for a fresh towel.
“Thor.” C nudged my knee with his while pulling on a pair of DD socks.
I looked up.
“You’ve got a mate now.”
Something inside me tightened. “Yeah, so?”
“I’m just saying…the Matenapper’s been laying low. They were never caught. Dad thinks they may have moved overseas with all the cash they made from matenapping, but that’s not been proven. And now you got something they might want.”
My brows furrowed, right eye twitching. “My mate?”
“Your mate. And the Highlander’s sister.” Callum counted on his fingers. “She’s the perfect target. Two top teams go down with one matenapping.”
I rubbed my temples. Fuck. “Nobody would dare. They’d stop existing.”
“She’s unmarked,” Killian chimed in. “If she’s taken, you won’t be able to track her.”
Rage detonated through my system, my mind going to my beautiful, intelligent mate and this random bastard touching one strand of her hair.
