My frame grew. My face lengthened into a muzzle. Hazelnut-brown fur sprouted. Cute ceramic plates scattered on Mrs. Tina’s immaculate floor.

Ruby seized Logan by the shoulders and, without giving him time to react, plunged her fangs into his pretty neck, on the opposite side from his first mark.

“Since you have so many females around you, I’m marking you twice,” she hissed, fangs still buried in his flesh.

“Oh, yeah,” Logan moaned. “Mark me as many times as you want, little mate.”

I could feel his bulge. Maybe we should mark him there too.

Another helpless sound left his parted lips, his head lolling onto Ruby’s shoulder.

“Now the mark can be seen from every angle.” Ruby withdrew her fangs and licked her lips, satisfied and proud, supporting the weight of Logan who was passed out in our arms.

Who’s the real Terminator now, Rudolph?

CHAPTER FORTY-THREE

YVAINE

“Ican’t believe you volunteer with my gran!” Logan complained later that night. We’d made peace after he regained consciousness. “She’s been blabbering about you all this time.”

He leaned over to kiss the side of my head. I grinned, peering at his fresh new mark. This one was red, making it quite vivid against his thick skin. Marking him twice had felt fantastic, but being a lycan felt even better.

As a werewolf, I’d never been particularly into wolf life. I was decent at tracking, but I’d never possessed an extraordinary sense of smell. My fighting skills were purely defensive. I’d always been more interested in knowledge, in healing, than embracing my wolf side. Letting Zelda out had been mostly a chore, like remembering to water your favorite plant—easy to forget when life got busy.

This felt different. This felt right.

It was like I was born to be a lycan.

“And all this time, Mrs. Tina has been telling me what a player you are,” I teased, though it was true.

“Traitor,” Logan scoffed, depositing his heavy arm around my shoulders as we walked toward his apartment. “You’re so hot when you’re angry. I should annoy you more often.”

“And I should mark you more often.”

The look he threw my way was downright feral. “Deal.”

With a huff, I pinched his side.

Part of me still demanded more justice. After all, he had visited Mrs. Tina to meet a girl; little did it matter that I’d ended up being that girl. Still, the mate bond displayed everything I needed to know. His thoughts, his feelings—honest, genuine, and completely devoted to me.

A thought crossed my mind, and I winced.

“What’s wrong?” Logan could also read my heart, just as I could read his. He grasped both my hands in his, bending to look at me. “Come on. Tell me. I know I can fix it.”

My heart ached. “Logan…if we’d listened to Mrs. Tina…” I trailed off, gazing up into his concerned eyes. “We could have met months ago. We could have had more time.”

My mate blinked, clearly not expecting that.

His hands cupped my cheeks. “Well, Bunny Doc, I love that fate slowly revealed you to me. Little by little.” He winked, and his smile swept away my sadness.

“You’re right. I needed a couple of months to prepare myself before having you as a mate.”

He snorted but pecked my lips.

“Really, don’t be sad.” His forehead rested against mine. “I can’t stand your sadness. That’s how we met, and when I think about it…” His mouth curved. “It’s totally original. Just like us.”

I chuckled at that naughty expression, kissing him a little more.
