The last thing I saw was Amaia lying motionless on the tiles, a puddle of blood all around her, legs bent at awkward angles. I thought about my little brother, then Logan, and whether I’d have the chance to tell him how much I loved him, before darkness took me under.

CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN

LOGAN

As soon as the calming effects of my mate wore off, the urge to cave in Golden Fur skulls rushed back in.

“Yo!” Killian splashed water at me. “How’d the chat with Sweet Pea—oof! Damn it, T!”

My elbow buried into his exposed stomach as I drove the fucker into the mud.

“Not cool, man!” he groaned, glaring at me. “You ruined the painting!”

I glanced at the black skeleton head on his chest, now smeared. Good.

“You snitch.” I helped him up. “Why’d you tell Bunny Doc? You made me look like a—”

“A shy boy?”

I pushed Killian back down.

“A nervous virgin?” Callum hooked an arm around my neck from behind. A second later, he joined his twin in the mud.

“You ruined the surprise, Killy!”

“You were never gonna ask!” He laughed. “Did she say yes?”

“She did.”

“I wonder what the Highlander’s twin is like in bed,” a soon-to-be dead man said.

I turned right the fuck around. Golden Furs’s captain stood on the opposite sideline and fucking grinned, one front tooth still missing.

“Going to kill that prick.” Two pairs of hands, one per arm, held me back.

“Don’t be stupid,” Callum warned. “He’s baiting you. You’ll get sent off and we’ll lose our captain for the second half.”

“No breaking people during halftime,” Killian reminded me.

I exhaled my rage. Slow. Controlled.

Slipping free, I looked straight at Captain Prick. “Remember what happened to the Crooked Fangs’s captain who messed with my sister last year?” I said in a sing-song voice, knowing he could hear me well, even from a distance.

His eyes widened, lips parted, but he shook his head.

“Exactly.” I let my fangs slide free. “Nobody found out.”

I watched him as he hurried off.

“Stop scaring them so much,” Killian sighed. “What’s the fun in playing if they all scurry away like hens?”

I wouldn’t make any promises over that one, not when my mate’s name was in the mouth of a scumbag.

After the locker room and my usual speech to pump up my boys, we spread out again. The stadium erupted, but my eyes searched the stands. It didn’t take long to spot Big Feet, listening to an elder from our pack. The seats beside him, though, were empty.

My brows furrowed.

Where is she? Bathroom. Or stretching her legs. She disliked sports but loved wandering around.
