Logan hit the wall behind him, regarding me like I was a dangerous animal.
“Ohhh, you don’t say! Is the mighty Terminator lost for words?”
His shock lasted two more seconds, then something darker replaced it, his front pressing into mine. “Careful, Bunny Doc.”
I cocked my hips. “Of what?”
“If you mark me with those cute fangs”—the pad of his thumb skimmed over my lower lip, pulling it out a little, breathing labored—“you’ll have to finish the whole mating process.” His voice dropped to a rough whisper. “Are you ready for that?”
Every considerate thought I had got lost at his hotness. Literally. Logan was boiling.
“Oh Stephen!” My palm pressed to his forehead. His skin was on fire and sweat gleamed across his temples and neck.
When I touched him, he let out a low, shaky moan and sniffed my hair, until…“Hello, mate.”
I gasped. “L-Lucien?”
His eyes were like two red headlights. His hair grew and turned black as though someone had poured black ink all over his head; only the tips remained blond. His jaw parted, canines throbbing, visibly elongating.
“Missed you.” His special voice warmed my insides. “Mate more beautiful.”
My heart swelled. “I missed you too.”
Somehow, Lucien had taken control without fully shifting. Logan’s features were sharper, broader, wilder, and…completely inhuman. Amazed. I was amazed. Every time I saw this complex creature, he stole another breath, another heartbeat.
Lachlan huffed somewhere behind us. “Get a room!” It took him a beat to notice, then he reconsidered. “Actually, don’t.”
“It’s your turn, kid.” My father clapped Logan’s shoulder, unbothered by our proximity.
Everything happened at once.
Logan’s head snapped around and he almost bit my father’s hand off.
The entire bar fell silent.
“What’s wrong with your eyes?” Dad’s expression hardened. “Goddess, you’re about to shift, aren’t you?” His voice remained calm.
Logan staggered back, blinking hard. “I’m sorry! Ah, shit. I didn’t even realize—”
“Forget my hand.” Dad, unbothered at his almost lost limb, stepped closer to check Logan.
“Are you turning into Godzilla again?” Lachlan asked. Worry filled his eyes.
“I’m…not…sure.”
“Everyone! Out,” Dad commanded in his Alpha voice. “Yvaine, you too.”
Werewolves filed toward the exit. Gaius caught my arm. “Come on.”
“No way!” I yanked free. “I’m staying with my mate.”
Panting heavily, Logan glanced at me from under pitch-black locks. Those red eyes slammed back in an instant, his attention on Gaius.
He roared.
Dad intercepted him, both arms locking around his chest. Gaius jumped away from me like I was made of needles.
“Lucy…” I rested a hand against his burning shoulder. “I’m here. Everything’s fine.”
