RE: A Message from Eric
Hi Raff,
I’m sorry for the delay in replying. I did receive your message, and I sincerely thank you for it. I’m sure it wasn’t easy to send that, just like I’m sure you understand that I needed to sit with it for a while. Amy and Elena did, too. I have a lot of questions—I mean, who wouldn’t?—but it doesn’t feel right just typing them out behind a screen.
I do think it would be good to meet. I live outside Portsmouth, but Annie and I have visited Dublin a few times. We could fly over in April and spend a long weekend if I schedule the time off soon. Would you be free then? Maybe the 15th?
My best to you (and Eric, if he hasn’t crossed over yet. Tell him I loved his letter)

RE: RE: A Message from Eric
April 15th is great. Name the time and place.
See you,
Raff
P.S.: Eric says hi and he loves you, too. He’s blowing on my tea right now. Not a metaphor.
I read Chloe’s message again and again, slipping my phone out of my pocket whenever I had a moment to myself for the rest of the day, like I was worried it would vanish. Like I’d made it all up. It was too good to be true, the thought of meeting someone who shared Eric’s features, and probably his sense of humor, and most of all, who loved him, too.
We neared the end of our days together, but thanks to Chloe, I now had a shred of hope that I might still have a piece of Eric after our time at the castle ended.
It was a glimmer. It wasn’t half of all I couldn’t help hoping for. But it was enough to help me get through the days that were starting to speed up like someone had hit fast-forward on the story of my life when all I wanted was for it to play out in slow motion.
