“We could go to my house and watch the game. I have some things to do, but I can do both.”

“You like football?”

“I like basketball better, but yeah. I like it.”

“Let’s do that then.”

He turned and headed back to her house.

She unlocked her door and put her to-go box in the fridge. “Do you want anything to drink?”

“Do you have a beer?”

“Yeah, it’s Coors. Is that okay?”

“That’s fine.”

She came back with the can and then handed him the remote. “We’ve got this TV and the one in the office.”

“No, this is fine. When are you going to sit with me?”

“Let me put a load of laundry in, and I’ll be back.”

“I’ll be here.”

Chapter Twelve

Beth came back and sat on the sofa and set a book and a glass of water down on the coffee table. “Aren’t they on yet?”

“Soon. Five minutes.” He looked at her. “Why are you sitting all the way over there?”

She chuckled. “I’m on the middle cushion.”

“I want you on my cushion.”

She gasped when he picked her up and set her across his lap. “This isn’t the cushion.”

“Nope. Now hush, the game’s on.”

She sputtered out a laugh, but set her head against his shoulder and turned her head to face the TV.

“Whom are you rooting for?” he asked against the side of her head.

“I’ll do the opposite of you to make it more fun.”

“You’re on. We need a bet to make it more interesting.”

She looked up at him. “Like what?”

“If I win, I get a back rub every day for a week, and if you win, I’ll wash dishes for a week unless you’d rather go for a back rub.”

She snorted. “I’ll take dishes, but I have the right to change my mind at any time.”

“Oh, I don’t know about that.”

“I’m a woman. We can do those things.”

He grunted and pushed her head to his chest again and grinned when she sputtered out a laugh.
