“Are any of them single?”

“Yes. One is.”

“Sandra,” Beth hissed.

Roman chuckled. “It’s okay, baby. I wouldn’t mind hooking them up. He needs to get out more.”

“Is he a cop, also?”

Roman nodded. “Yes, but in a different part of the city.”

Sandra grinned. “It was nice meeting you. Have him call me any time.”

Beth rolled her eyes.

Sandra kissed her cheek. “See you later.”

They watched her walk away. “Sorry about that. I’d like to say she’s not usually that forward, but it would be a lie.”

Roman chuckled.

She started climbing the fence. “I’m done here so we can leave. I’ll change my jeans in the tack room.” She swung over the top and gasped when strong hands gripped her waist and lifted her down. She looked at him over her shoulder. “Thank you.”

Roman grinned. “My pleasure.”

She couldn’t seem to catch her breath around him. Everything about him appealed to her. She took his hand and he started leading her to his car.

“If you want to wait here, I’ll change.”

“Sounds good,” he said and leaned up against the hood of his car and crossed his arms.

Beth grabbed the bag from inside the car and walked into the barn. A few minutes later, she came out wearing nice jeans and sandals.

“Ready?” he said when she stepped out.

“Yes.”

He came around to her side and opened her door.

She took some deep breaths as he walked around the car. She stuffed her bag behind them as he slid in.

“What sounds good to eat?” he asked.

“Anything. I’m starved.”

“Well, you had quite the workout.”

“It was a good one. My favorite kind.”

“Mine is jogging or basketball. Am I ever going to get you to run with me?”

“Um, no. I don’t run. I have horses for that,” she said and grinned.

He threw back his head and laughed.

“As far as food goes, I can find something to eat anywhere we go. Do you want something that’s been around for a long time or new?”

“Are there any new Mexican restaurants you’ve been to?”
