Roman grinned. “What kind of horse is that?”
“Friesian. They’re not usually used for show jumping, but Beth has worked with her for years, and the mare is very good at it. To ride a Friesian in show jumping, you have to be a very experienced rider. But the horse is as good as the rider, also. I think Beth could have gone to the Olympics, she’s that good. Normally Loki is as gentle as can be.”
“They look just ... beautiful together. It’s like they are one.”
Mike chuckled. “Yes.”
Beth was done talking to the other woman and started to prance around the room. She picked up speed as she went and then flew over the jumps. They were so graceful together, it was amazing to watch.
“She also shows Loki sometimes, and she does tricks.”
“She trained her?”
“Oh, yes. She got her when she was a yearling, and I think Loki is about six now. She got her after Rick died. I think it saved her. The horse and Jayden did, or she would have lost it.”
“I can’t imagine what she went through,” Roman murmured but kept his eyes on Beth.
“It was sad. We all felt terrible for her. She’s one of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet.”
“I’ve gathered that. She’s pretty special.”
“I’m glad you realize that. She’s got a lot of people that love her.”
“She’s easy to love,” Roman agreed.
Chapter Ten
Beth rode over to Sandra. “Anything you see that needs work?”
“Not that I can see.”
“Good,” Beth said and slid from the saddle and handed off the reins to a guy waiting on the side. “Thanks, Tommy. Just brush her down. I’ll bathe her in a few days.”
“Sure, boss.”
Beth started pulling off her helmet and gloves.
“So, are you going to tell me who the hunk is?”
Beth grinned at her. “His name is Roman. He’s the new Police Captain.”
“Holy cow. Are you going to introduce me?”
Beth chuckled, and they started over to him and Mike.
“Thank you, Mike, for hanging around.”
“It was my pleasure. He’s a cool dude.”
The other three chuckled.
“Roman, I want you to meet my partner, Sandra.” She turned to her friend. “Sandra, this is my new friend, Roman.”
Roman smiled and held out his hand. “It’s nice to meet you.”
“You, too. So ... do you have a brother?” Sandra asked.
Beth gasped, and Roman laughed. “I actually do. I have three.”
