“It’s just that I haven’t thought about a man in five years. I haven’t dated or even kissed one, so I don’t want to get overwhelmed.”
He nodded. “I understand. I’ll try to back off, but please be aware it won’t be forever.”
She grinned. “Well, you’re definitely honest.”
“Are you ready to order?” the waitress asked.
He let her order and then ordered for himself. After the waitress walked off, he caught her hand. He just needed to be touching her in some way.
“Tell me where you met Rick?”
“A mutual friend set us up.”
“I bet he took one look at you and was done for,” Roman predicted. He grinned when a pretty blush covered her face. He hadn’t seen anyone blush in some time, and it charmed him.
“He said he was,” she said and shrugged.
“Oh, I can guarantee he was telling you the truth.”
She studied his face for a moment. “You’re very handsome.”
He grinned. “Thank you.”
“You’re also very dominant, aren’t you?”
He turned serious and then nodded. “Yes, I’m a Dom. Is that going to be a problem?”
She smiled. “No. Rick was the same way. He wasn’t as intense as you are, but he liked to be in control.”
“That didn’t bother you?”
“No. It probably should have, but I liked it. My dad was very dominant also, so I grew up with that.”
“Do you miss him?”
“My husband?”
“Yeah,” he said.
“It’s gotten better over the years, but I can say that I can think of him now and our times together without hurting. I think a part of me will always miss him. It doesn’t help when I look at Jayden. Besides the eyes, he looks exactly like his father.”
He kissed her knuckles. “I can’t imagine going through what you did.”
“You just take it day by day.”
“What do you miss most about being married?”
“I think the companionship. Having someone to help if you need it. Knowing you have someone at your back, and they love you.”
“Not the hot and sweaty sex?”
She grinned. “Oh, definitely that.”
Jesus, why in the hell was he torturing himself?
He hissed, making her laugh. “I did that to myself.”
She looked over his shoulder. “Our food is here.”
