“I’m pregnant, Poppy,” I choke as I place my left hand over my stomach, “Are you really that evil to shoot your little sister who only ever wanted you to love her, and your niece or nephew over money? Over your husband's lies? Your husband's debts?”
Her eyes go to my stomach, her body now shaking as she chokes, “You’re lying!” not denying that Mitchel owes money.
She’s so blinded by wanting love that she missed that she already had it with me, with our parents.
“Look on the fridge then,” I whisper, and I watch as her eyes go to the fridge before her body tenses seeing my scan photo before her eyes go back to my stomach, and just when I think she’ll relent and lower the gun, to have some sort of conscience about killing an unborn baby, she growls, “Is that my mama's engagement ring?!”
Oh, crap, no…
“It was left to me in the will,” I whisper, and she trembles again.
“You allowed that filthy biker to give you my mother's ring?” she snaps, and I flinch as fear hits me hard.
“He’s my husband,” I say quietly, and she screeches, “That is my ring!”
“No,” I deny, “it’s mine, you knew Mom and Dad didn’t approve of Mitchel.”
She screams in anger before she shoots the gun, pressing her finger on the trigger that is aimed at my stomach, and I quickly get out of the way, just as the bullet hits the window, smashing it, and Snow barks louder, going crazy as I swallow a scream.
I choke, “Why are you like this?!”
“Because they were my parents!” she shouts, “Now, while I kill you and anything that will take my inheritance, my husband is slicing your filthy biker's throat! I will have that money!”
No, no, no, no.
She aims the gun again, and I quickly move, the bullet just skimming my arm, and I cry out in shock, and I know I need to anger her, to get her so focused on my words that I can tackle her.
I need to get to the strip club, I need to get to my husband!
“They weren’t just your parents!” I snap, causing her to growl, but I continue, “Mom used to sing me to sleep, Daddy used to read to me, used to take me out on daddy-daughter dates…”
“Shut up!” she screams and shoots the gun again, and I dive out of the way, going behind the armchair, and I breathe heavy, my only focus, Linc.
Snow barks, and the scratching gets louder as the gun goes off again, and I scream as the bullet flies just past my foot, and I move quickly and take deep breaths.
Okay, I got this…
“I’m going to kill you, Mitchel is going to kill that biker, and that money will be mine, like it always should have been mine, and I won’t lose my husband!” she snaps.
“It will never be yours because I've already written a will,” I lie, “It all goes to charity if I die…”
It’s actually all been placed in a trust to be split among how many kids I may have, but she doesn’t need to know that…
I hear smashing, and I quickly look around the chair to see her kicking the table full of our wedding pictures, and I breathe heavily.
Almost there…
“Our parents left me one point eight million dollars,” I state, causing her to freeze hearing the price, “All because you were too selfish to take me in like a bitch!”
I watch as her breathing gets heavy before she aims the gun at my goddamn dog, and I don’t think. I quickly rush from behind the chair and sprint towards her. Before she can aim the gun, I tackle her to the ground, causing her to scream as we land on the floor, me on top of her.
Knowing I only have one opportunity, I grab her hand with the gun with both of mine, and she screams, “No!” and tries to shove me off her, but I elbow her in the face, causing her scream louder, and everything happens quickly, too quickly for me to do anything about it.
One moment, we’re fighting for the gun, she's trying to aim it at my stomach, trying to kill my baby and the next, she pulls the trigger just as I twist it towards her, and my eyes widen as her body jolts, then goes slack, the gun instantly in my possession and I quickly climb off my sister, her whole chest is covered in blood.
No, please, no, no, no…
I choke out a cry as I drop the gun and stumble over my sister, and I press down on her chest, over the bullet wound, and she chokes as her body trembles.
