I swear, Crash needs his head examined for being with her, she was a bitch in high school, and she’s still a bitch now.

Shaking my head, I walk towards the staff room, ready to get out of here. I’m about to spend the next two hours helping my husband come up with a new design scheme so he can redecorate the strip club. When he pouted his bottom lip at me, I couldn’t say no.

Damn, I love calling him my husband.

I yawn as I slowly climb out of my car half an hour later, and walk towards the front door, my feet dragging me, knowing there is no point parking in the garage when I need to go back out. As I get closer, I frown, hearing Snow bark like crazy and not the excited bark he reserves for my return home. I immediately pick up my pace with concern.

She never barks when she’s left alone.

Without thinking, I quickly rush into the house, frowning at the door being unlocked and instead of stopping, instead of using my brain knowing the door shouldn’t be unlocked, my sole focus being Snow. I rush inside the house and freeze just past the entryway to see Snow through the open living, kitchen combo area, barking and jumping at the back door. Herfur is raised as she goes crazy, clawing at the glass, and my sister, a woman who refused to take me in after we lost our parents, holds a gun up at me. I swallow hard seeing the coldness on her face, the finality.

“It’s about time you got home, I’ve been here for two hours already,” she sneers, “I thought Mitchel was going to beat me home after killing your biker scum!”

Oh god.

My heart pounds, and true fear hits me. Her words swim in my head, and instead of being scared that she’s holding a gun to my head, my only thought is the man who stole my heart.

Linc…

Chapter 26

Blair

Snow’s barking gets fiercer as she notices me, her nails scratching against the glass, marking it. As much as I would love to get to her knowing she’d tear my sister apart, I know I need to play it safe and I stay still, not taking my eyes off my sister. She is holding a gun up without remorse, trying to think of a plan that won’t end with me being shot.

Money means that much to her that she’s willing to kill me over my trust.

Damn, Mom and Daddy would be disappointed in her.

“Years, fucking years I had Mom and Dad, years I got whatever I wanted because they couldn’t have any more kids. Mom was told she wouldn’t conceive again, so I was their sole focus, until you. Until Mom thought she had something wrong with her only to find out she was in labor with you, you ruined everything!” she sneers and I swallow hard at the jealous she holds.

“That trust should have been mine!” she snaps, as she takes a menacing step forward, “The house, the cars, everything should have been left to me, yet they chose their favorite just like they did all of your pathetic little life!”

“I wasn't their favorite,” I choke, causing her nostrils to flare as she grips the gun. I mention, “They were concerned about your spending habits, you got credit cards out in their name, racked up debt, they were trying to be responsible so you had a future, and if you had taken me in, if you had looked after me like they were hoping, you would have received half of the trust. But you didn’t want me, Poppy, you smacked me when I told you that your husband sexually assaulted me, you put me back into the system.”

She shouts, “I didn’t want the burden of watching their mistake!” and I flinch at the harshness of her tone.

“I wasn't their mistake, I was their miracle, and instead of seeing that, you allowed your jealousy to take over,” I say softly, “I’m your little sister, I looked up to you…”

I slowly walk around the couch, hoping my words will make her pause, but instead, she follows me, and I swallow again.

I need to let Snow in, but somehow, I think Poppy knows that is my intention.

“You were a mistake, I had everything before you showed up!” she snaps, and I shake my head.

“You still had everything, you just decided to cry out for all of their attention. You are at fault here, Poppy, yet you’re holding a gun to me? And why? Because I got their trust?” I ask with confusion, perplexed by the anger shining off her.

“That money should have been mine”, she shouts, and I flinch again.

“Then take it,” I cry, “If it means that much to you, then take it and leave town, leave me!”

Her nostrils flare, and she denies, “No, this is my town, my home and you lied about my husband!”

“I didn’t lie!” I scream, “He tried to rape me, and you let him!”

“Shut up!” she screams back as her hand shakes, not liking the truth, and I swallow thickly, my body trembling.
