I thank him, then ask my friends once he’s gone, “What the hell’s 7 Minutes in Sea Haven?”
Dex replies first. “You know 7 Minutes in Heaven?”
“Who doesn’t?”
“It’s like that, except in the woods.”
“It’s nothing like that,” Tina corrects. “But it is in the woods.”
“Out here? In the open?”
“Everyone usually spreads out enough that you don’t see other people. You might hear them, but if you got time to look around, you’re not playing the game correctly.”
My heartbeat picking up pace, I seek out Kota. She’s next to Guy again. For once, he’s giving her his full attention, but maybe not in the best way. They appear to be arguing.
“I came here with him. This was my idea.”
She knew about this game and she…wanted to play it with him?
Is he not on board? I thought voyeurism was his thing. He’s the one that wanted Kota to ride his cock right in front of me after all.
“How are the pairs chosen?” I question while watching the heated exchange.
“They’re not. It’s a free-for-all.”
“You get to choose whoever you want?”
Out of the corner of my eye, I notice Dex’s head wobble, but Tina’s the one to speak.
“Anyone that’s playing is fair game.”
I just say who I want to spend seven minutes in the woods with and I get her? It can’t be that easy. If it were, Dex wouldn’t be imitating a bobblehead right now.
“What’s the catch?”
“Look, you can plan who you’re going after all you want, okay. Everyone does. But, bro, I’m telling you, once that timer starts, and you don’t know where anyone is, you’re scrambling just to find someone to spend a few minutes with.”
Is that what the disagreement’s about? Guy not being down with sharing Kota? That’s ironic considering he sure seemed excited to share Lisann.
“How do you ‘find’ someone?”
While Dex says, “Luck,” Tina says, “Skill,” neither of them exactly answering my question.
A girl with hair so long it touches her ass cups her mouth and shouts, “Listen up! No pictures or videos allowed! And by that, we mean none! We’re only taking our memories out of here, people! So anyone wanting to play must surrender their phone now!”
Another girl holding a pillowcase starts going around, collecting cell phones. When she gets to Guy, dude drops his in without hesitation. Kota, however, clings to hers like it’s Onyx.
So she’s the one having second thoughts. Did she realize a little too late what this game entails? A free pass for—more—cheating.
Of course that chickenshit would back out. She can’t put Guy to the test because she knows he’ll fail. Guy’s loyalty’s as sturdy as a house of cards.
Our gazes connect.
Come on, Kota. Play the game. See where the cards fall. Because they’re gonna fucking fall.
Keeping my eyes, she adds her phone to the pile.
I tuck my chin to hide my smile. She’s playing.
