“You said you were a beta.”

Now, she’s getting on my nerves. I won’t back down, I don’t care who she is. “No, I didn’t. You assumed.”

Lorelei growls and turns to Felix, distressed. “I don’t want you to be unhappy.”

“I’m not unhappy.”

“But-”

“Mum. This is what I want. Khione, Zaire, Clint, and Jace. This pack. Thirty days. We will go to all your dates, all the events. We will figure things out and just enjoy spending time together. But this pack is the only choice I would make.”

The matriarch of the Sol pack sits back, she looks at us one after another until she’s found Felix again. “Really? Are you really interested? You aren’t just saying that? I finally found people who you are willing to try with?”

Felix blushes bright red.

What is happening here? I’m so curious I could squeal.

“I’m so happy. So, you really, you have feelings, and this is it? You found people?” she asks slowly, stumbling over the words.

“Mum, stop it!” Felix hisses and sinks down in the chair while Clint starts giggling.

“You just hate everyone. You’ve never been interested in anyone, I was starting to think it would never happen,” Lorelei teases softly. “Are these your people?”

I can’t get my jaw to hinge closed. All I can do is look between them, trying to figure this out. She wasn’t objecting to us, she was making sure Felix had real feelings.

Oh, my gawd, she is the sweetest.

“Okay, baby, I will leave you to it, but come over for brunch, and bring the pack.”

“Can’t, I have to work,” Jace says quickly, which I think might be an excuse.

“Well, everyone else can.”

She stands up but comes around the table and stops in front of Zaire. He gets to his feet and looks down at her.

“I am terribly, terribly sorry for what we did to you. I would never have ever wanted to hurt or scare anyone, and I promise we have had a meeting and planned to make sure nothing like that will ever happen again.”

Zaire is speechless.

“He means, thank you. He’s just not used to people caring.”

“Sunshine Cove considers you one of us now, Zaire. You have people here. Your tribe. Your pack. You don’t have to be alone. We’ll be here when you are ready.”

I stand up, my eyes filling with tears, and wrap my arms around her from behind. “Omega Sol, I think I love you.”

With a squeak, she lets out a short but nervous laugh. I hold on to her, struggling with my tears, until Zaire pulls me free and into his arms.

“We all…we think what you did for Zaire with Spectre, it was one of the most amazing things we’ve seen, Key.”

I stare at her, my lower lip wobbling. Oh, my gawd, she remembers my name! I’m going to cry.

“Welcome to Trick Knot Treat; we are so glad to have you.”

I start bawling. Clint gets up, alarmed, and pulls me into a tight hug.

“It’s all right, these are happy tears,” Clint says to the other alphas and Felix. “Disaster averted, but we’re going to need the chocolate stash and the ice cream, stat.”
