My heart clenches. “She was coming back to us?”

“Yeah. You’re keeping both my kids. Harvest is heading back to stay there, too. Lucky you. Khione will feel better knowing she’s got her big brother there.”

I scowl. “Big brother? Big pain in the ass.”

Crash laughs. “He is that.”

Zaire stays close to me, but he’s relaxed, and the tension is gone. Crash leads us into the kitchen where we find that blond beta singing and twirling around with a ladle.

“Would you like us to leave you alone with your lady love?” Crash says dryly.

The man stops spinning, and his dark cheeks turn red. “Why do you always find me when I’m doing embarrassing things? Do you have a camera?”

“Yes, I spend all my time watching for perfect moments to jump in and embarrass you.”

The man growls and slams the ladle into a pot, grabs a bowl with the other hand, and starts dishing up food at speeds that make me dizzy.

“Eat, you grumpy bastard.”

“Aww, you care.”

“Do I?”

“I think you do.”

The two move together like magnets. Crash captures his cheek and leans in, pressing a chaste kiss to his lips.

“Our daughter’s scent matches are here.”

He turns dark and forbidding eyes on us, and for the first time since we arrived, I see just how incredibly dangerous these two are.

“Which one is the cop again?” the blond asks, winking at me.

“Oh, this is going to get old fast. Next time, I will wear my uniform so you can all spit in my path before I walk.”

That makes both of them laugh, and Jace is given a bowl of stew. It actually looks delicious.

“This is Khione’s favorite food. One of you will stay here and learn the recipe with me so that you can cook it for her when she grows poorly.”

“This is my love, Gummy.”

“Gummy?” I ask before I can stop myself.

“Yeah, he’s my Gummy shark. All bark and no bite.”

“I will shoot you in the foot, I promise you. If you keep telling people that story.” He growls, slamming the lid on the pot.

“Aw, baby, don’t be so hostile.”

“My name is Gummy because during a vicious brawl, all my front teeth were knocked out. I had implants put in, but the name stuck,” he says, glowering at Crash, who is stroking his beard in a strangely erotic way.

I shudder and lean into my pack.

“If any of you grow a beard, I will take sex off the table forever.”

Clint gets the giggles.

“All right, you, what do you do?”
