I couldn't keep my eyes off her ass when she walked away. I didn't care she was a lot younger. Every part of me wanted her. My dead cold heart was anything but around her. Why?
As the day went on, I fought with my inner thoughts, the distraction of the skeleton not working. But the display was turning out to be something impressive and I couldn't wait to show her when I finished.
“Okay open your eyes.” I said as I hit the lights. The large skeleton hovered above, the opening being directly below the rib cage.
“Oh my God, Coast!” Amora said. Her eyes traveled over the large display and as we walked beneath it, the green eyes light up and the arms moved. “Ah!” Amora squealed with laughter. “I didn't expect that!”
“Isn’t it great?” I laughed along with her.
“Yes.” She clapped her hands and swayed on the balls of her feet. “I'm so excited. It looks better than last year.”
I beamed proudly. “Thank you. With the music and smoke added, it'll be fire.”
Amora squealed again and flew into my arms.
I blinked once. Twice.
How could I not hug her back?
I wrapped my arms around her and my eyes closed, my body warm and relaxed.
Home.
My eyes jolted open and I stepped back. Smiled politely. Hoped my dick didn't betray me.
My insides though? Mush.
“Do you want to come to the party? With me?” Amora smiled, her eyes sparkling.
The attraction between us sparked.
I wanted to say yes. Should've said yes. But I couldn't.
“I'm sorry, Amora. I'd love to but—” I took a deep breath. “I've already got plans.” I lied.
“Oh,” Amora’s face fell and my heart sank. “Okay no worries.” She plastered on a smile. “Well it's amazing. I'll be sure to tip you well.” She hooked a thumb over her shoulder. “I've got to get back. Lots to do before the party. But thank you. A million times, thank you.”
“You're welcome.”
I watched her walk away.
Man, I sure know how to fuck shit up.
CHAPTER THREE
Amora
My heart throbbed in my chest, the stab of rejection shooting pain through my veins.
But I pushed it away. I had a party to focus on.
I spent the rest of the day busying myself with my endless to-do list and when I finally arrived home, my phone buzzed with a text.
Colleen: How did it go with Coast? He said the display came out really good. I can't wait to see it!
I smiled even though the mention of his name sent my heart sinking down to my ass.
Me: It went great! He's a nice guy and the display is so cool. I think it's better than last year. Thank you again, you saved me.
