Logan walked out, and I gulped at the sight of his ridiculously fit body in only a pair of pajama pants. Was this man trying to tempt me? He got back into the bed with me and Liam and brought the comforter over us.

“She doesn’t?” he asked.

“Mari’s been with her girlfriend Kelly since high school. V told me about the…issues you’ve had with other nannies.”

He sighed. “I want someone to help with him when I’m on the road. I don’t have time for anything like that.”

“What about the rest of this weekend? When do you travel next?”

Logan put a finger to my lips. “Relax, I have it handled. But thank you for the offer. You should enjoy the rest of your weekend free from baby duty.”

I smiled at him while he hit the light, plunging us into darkness. “You know what I was going to do tonight before you asked for my help?”

“What?”

“Play Dragonspire.”

He laughed. “A girl after my own gamer heart.”

The smile stayed on my face. “I misjudged you, Logan.”

“Well, we’ve only known each other in passing…but I’d like to get to know you better.”

Yeah, I was sure he did. I was pretty sure his mouth and his hands and even his cock wanted to get to know me a lot better tonight. Too bad there was a little boy between us preventing that.

“Show?” Liam asked, pointing to the large flatscreen mounted on the wall.

“No, buddy, bedtime,” Logan said in a stern voice.

He kissed the top of Liam’s head, and I smiled at how affectionate he was with his nephew. A lot of guys weren’t like that with their kids. They gave into that toxic masculinity of men never showing their emotions. I liked that Logan showed the boy he raised kindness and love. All kids needed that.

I lay beside Logan for several minutes, listening to the heavy breathing of the child in-between us.

“You can go if you want. He’ll be okay,” Logan whispered into the dark.

But the thing was, I didn’t want to go. I should have, but the mama bear in me wanted to stay and make sure Liam was okay.

“It’s okay,” I whispered back.

“He’s attached to you.”

I wrapped my arm around Liam, a protective move as if that would keep him safe from whatever haunted him. “Logan?”

“Hmm?”

I took a breath before asking what was on my mind. It was none of my business, but the hurt across the little boy’s face tonight made me nosy.

“How did she die?”

“Car crash.”

“Does he understand that she’s gone?”

He sighed. “We’ve talked about it at length. He’s having a hard time coping. He cries for her all the time. I don’t know what to do.”

I put a hand on his arm. “You’re doing amazing. You’ll figure this parenting thing out.”

“I hope so. You don’t have to stay; you can leave if you want to get home.”
