“But I liked ‘a good boy’ so much better,” she teased, laughing harder when she saw my cheeks turn red.
When she got herself together, she gave my hand a pat.
“I’m Tillie.”
“Nice to meet you, Tillie,” I said, offering her my hand like a complete dork. She shook it, beaming back at me.
“The pleasure is all mine,” she said, practically purring out the words. I was starting to think she liked to tease me.
I liked it, too.
“We were starting to worry that you were arrested last night for scaring omegas,” Kai joked as soon as I walked into the pack house.
He sat at the table eating a bowl of cereal wearing his light orange colored sunglasses even though he was indoors. Aiden wasn’t in the room but that wasn’t a surprise. He’d stay in his room sleeping until late morning or early afternoon thanks to his constant insomnia.
“Where is Dean?” I asked, ignoring his commentary as I walked towards my room.
“Outside working on his…” Kai trailed off before he dropped his bowl onto the table and ignored the mess as I passed by him. “What’s that smell?”
“An omega,” I told him with a smugness in my voice I couldn’t hide, my chest swelling with pride as I thought of Tillie and the sweet kiss she gave me before I drove back to the pack house.
“An omega?!” he repeated loud enough that I heard Aiden groan from his room on the other side of the house. “Why do you smell like an omega?! Wait… is that rose?”
“Look, that’s not—”
“What’s all this ruckus?” a deep voice boomed after the back door slammed open followed by Aiden stumbling down the hallway to join us.
Aiden’s blond hair was sticking up in all directions. His exhaustion lessened as he focused on first myself, then Kai, and finally Dean before focusing on myself again.
“Why are we yelling?” Aiden asked in his soft, low voice. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever heard him raise it.
“Our Jack here said he hooked up with an omega,” Kai exclaimed, coming over to clap me on the shoulder hard enough it shook me. “He even smells like—”
“Can you not sniff me?” I tried to pull away but Dean and Aiden shared a surprised look.
“I’m still in shock that you hooked up with someone. How did you manage that?” Kai continued, humor brightening his gaze as he teased me.
It wasn’t a secret that I didn’t have the best track record with women. Especially omegas.
Last night was my chance to prove them wrong. We were talking about omegas and Kai was giving me a hard time lately that I’d scare them off if I didn’t learn some people skills.
Well, how was that for people skills?
“Then don’t believe it,” I huffed, heading for the coffee maker and quickly pouring myself a mug. I’d need more caffeine to deal with their teasing words.
I was feeling oddly protective of her, and I wasn’t certain I wanted to share with them now.
Dean was always the most perceptive out of us and he walked over, leaning against the counter and studying me.
“He doesn’t mean anything by it,” he started, reaching out to squeeze my shoulder then freezing.
He was trying to comfort me, but now he was sniffing me. What the fuck?
“Holy hell, he’s right. It’s not just a slow dance kind of scent transfer. This is the kind that can only be this strong if they spent the night together," he said, his voice deeper than usual. “And fuck she smells like mine.”
A low growl echoed out of me, startling me enough I nearly dropped my mug. The others were just as stunned, though now they were all moving in, cornering me like prey.
“Look, she was incredible, and I don’t care what you think,” I said, voice harsh. Even if I knew they were giving me shit, my alpha wasn’t having it today. Not after the best night of my life.
