I squeeze Hades’ hand.

We are going to make it through this.

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

Hades

Evelyn has had a new lease on life since talking to Atticus last week. Sure, things are moving at a slow pace, but she now has an end goal in sight. It is making her more determined to get back to where she was before this shitstorm came our way.

Not sure Trigger is enjoying it, though.

“Evelyn, please get out of my space. You are making this extremely difficult,” Trigger snaps.

I open my mouth to tell him to watch his tone, but Evelyn beats me to it.

“Linus Theodore Monroe, don’t you dare take that tone of voice with me. I have stitched up more of your injuries than I can count, and let us not forget the time you thought that Christmas decoration would make a good toy. Flared bases always, Linus. Always.” She glares at him.

He swallows hard. “I can’t focus with you here.”

She laughs. “Good, because I am here to focus. Hades, go get us some snacks. We will be a while.”

“You can’t order me around, Princess,” I tell her but already know I will do her bidding.

She looks over her shoulder at me. “I can if you want to get laid tonight.”

I smirk at her. “That’s more of a punishment for you than me, but sure. I’ll play your game.”

I leave the two bickering in Trigger’s office and head down into the kitchen. I smile when I find Kaitlyn feeding Kolby in his highchair.

“Hi, Kolby. Are you being good for your mama?” I coo at him.

“Yes, Unccy Hates,” he mumbles with food in his mouth, making me smile.

He’s a little over two years old now and is learning to speak, but he can’t quite say my name yet. I hate to admit how adorable I think it is.

“What are you doing here? Not that we don’t love having you,” Kaitlyn asks.

“Evelyn is torturing Trigger at the moment. I’ve been sent for snacks.”

She laughs. “Domesticated looks good on you.”

“I just want to keep my dick where it is.”

“Dick. Dick, Mama. Dick.”

I wince, turning to Kaitlyn with a bag of chips in my hand. “I’m sorry.”

She waves me off. “Colt says way worse. The kid will be cussing like a sailor before we know it.”

“Speaking of, is that why you’re here instead of home? Colt around here somewhere?”

She shakes her head. “With everything going on, we decided it was safer to stay at the clubhouse. I’m going to be honest with you. If it gets any worse, I might take Kolby for an extended vacation to San Antonio. I love this place and our family, but I can’t have it touch him, you know?”

My heart hurts for her. I can see the worry lining her face.

“None of us would blame you. If Evelyn would let me ship her off, she’d be right there with you,” I admit.

“Too bad you hitched your wagon to a strong woman, huh?”
