I shake my head, letting out a small laugh. “She’s not Becky. She didn’t know it was you. I never told her we were twins. I want to be mad, but I can’t. I did it to myself.”
“No shit. How do you not tell your old lady you have a carbon copy out there somewhere?”
I start to peel the label off my beer. “I never talked about you. Before this place, I never mentioned your name to anyone. She broke my walls down one by one. I would’ve told her eventually, but I wasn’t ready yet.”
He nods. “I get that. Think she will forgive you?”
I smile. “I think I’m going to enjoy earning her forgiveness.”
We both laugh.
“I know it’s not all resolved. I still have resentment here, but I’m glad to see you, Hades.”
“You don’t know what a relief it is to see you, Remi.”
I pull up my sleeve, tapping my “brother” tattoo. He does the same, making me smile when I see he still has it.
“You got yours touched up?” he asks.
“Yeah, I didn’t want it to fade. It’s important to me.”
He hums. “Maybe you can hook me up with your guy. Mine could use a touch-up too.”
“Anytime, brother.”
For the first time in a long time, everything feels like it’s going to be okay.
Evelyn
I sit with Big Dog and Reaper, my eyes zeroed in on the door. They are talking about club shit, but I can’t be bothered. I need to know what is going on out there.
When the door finally opens, Hades and Remi come back in laughing with one another. It makes me happy to know that they are going to be okay.
Whatever they talked about, both seem lighter. Like a weight has been lifted.
Now that I know they are twins, I can see the slight difference.
Hades always carries himself with authority, but he also sort of curls in on himself. It’s so minute that you can barely tell, but there is a small part of him that is protecting himself. I think that comes from him having to rely on himself for a decade. Never having anyone to have his back.
Then there’s Remi. He stands tall and walks with an aura of authority that matches Reaper. It is a vibe only a president of an MC can carry. The way he expects everyone to defer to him is clear in his eyes. He expects obedience without having even met most of these men.
I can see the burden behind his eyes, though. The same one I see in Reaper. The one that says there are a whole lot of people depending on him.
I wonder how hard it was to lose Hades. Does he feel he failed his brother in some way?
I meet the men halfway across the floor, aware that we have everyone’s attention.
“Princess, meet my brother Remi. Remi, this is Evelyn, my old lady.”
I scoff. “I haven’t agreed to be your old lady yet. Should I after finding out you have a whole goddamn twin? I mean, I kissed him, Hades.”
Remi smirks. “It was a good kiss too, doll. Unlike my brother here, though, I don’t enjoy messing around with his women. I’ll leave you to dig yourself out of this hole.”
He pats Hades on the back as he walks over to where Reaper sits with Big Dog.
“I’m still mad, but did you two kiss and make up?” I ask, folding my arms.
“I wouldn’t say that, but we don’t hate each other anymore.”
