Reaper grinds his teeth, but before he can say anything, Hades speaks.
“One of the officers came to me with a deal. I leave town and renounce all of you, and I get off for any crimes he claims I committed.”
“So he is trying to weaken us. That piece of shit,” Colt mutters.
“Are you both okay? We didn’t even get to ask about the house,” Reaper says through his gritted teeth.
“We are both fine. The alarm went off before the smoke could even get to us. The fire chief called and said it was a normal house fire.”
“Trigger?” Reaper asks.
“I’m on it.”
Trigger exits the room, leaving the rest of us to talk.
“He is getting more erratic. This is good for us. He will make a mistake. We need to be ready when he does,” Reaper says.
“Can I go lie down now? If you don’t need me, that is. It’s been a long night,” I ask, exhaustion hitting me hard.
Reaper nods. “Everyone rest up. We will meet again tomorrow.”
As he adjourns the informal meeting, Hades helps me stand. He leads me down the hall to his room, curling his body around me as soon as I lie on the bed.
“Our phones,” I murmur into the pillow.
“We don’t need them. Rest, Princess. I’ve got you.”
I let out a content sigh.
I know he does, and I’m starting to really like it.
CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN
Hades
Reaper bangs the gavel as the door clicks closed. Kicks takes his seat as Reaper begins to talk.
“I swear I’m sick of seeing all of your faces.”
Everyone laughs at his proclamation.
“Get this issue solved, and we won’t have to meet so often. One well-placed bullet, I’ll pay the time.” Wrath says it so nonchalantly, but we all know the truth.
He would miss the hell out of Tara while in the pen.
Reaper shakes his head. “I can’t afford to lose any of you. Not right now, at least.”
“Your old lady would kill you.” Midnight smirks.
“I trained her well.” Wrath returns his smile.
“I’m sure you guys are all sick of me starting the meeting the same way every time but…” Reaper looks over at me. “How did my sister’s meeting go the other day?”
“Good, although Trigger was there. Do you want to tell them about it?”
Trigger glares at me before clearing his throat.
“Atticus has scheduled a meeting. It’s tomorrow. After last night, I think we need a win. One of our men can go with her, but they have to wait outside. He also got a room at the courthouse, so it will be secure.”
