I didn’t wait to hear her reply before I headed to the door.
I needed to find Kristy and apologize.
Maybe grovel.
Chapter Thirty-Four
Kristy
I was alone in the living room, staring into my wine glass, while Lainey put Conor to bed.
Justin’s personal business had been blasted everywhere, and that bothered me. I knew what a private person he was—especially about his injuries. Frankly, it pissed me off that he’d been exposed like that.
How dare someone take something so personal and use it for their individual gain.
Still.
It was shitty that he thought it was me.
I know we’d only dated a month, but I thought we’d gotten to know each other pretty well during our pillow talk sessions.
Apparently not.
As if I’d somehow conjured him up by thinking about him, my phone dinged with a text from him.
My heart beat faster as I opened up my app.
Justin: How long are you staying at Lainey’s?
Me: How do you know I’m at Lainey’s?
Justin: Your car is parked out front.
Me: Okay, creeper.
But I kinda loved it.
Justin: No, that’s at my house, remember?
I couldn’t help but smile at the memory of me teasing him about the wheely-thing by his bed. That was the night he’d told me about his prosthetics. I’d felt honored that he’d trusted me with it.
Now he thought I’d betrayed that trust.
Me: Why do you want to know how long I’ll be at Lainey’s?
Justin: I need to talk to you.
I scoffed out loud. “Oh, now you want to talk?”
“Who wants to talk?” Lainey asked as she sat back down in the recliner.
“Justin.”
She sat up straighter. “What?”
“Yeah, he just texted. He knows I’m here and wants to know how long I’m staying.”
“Oh shit! He went straight-up stalker mode. What are you going to do?”
