Since volunteering for any shift that needed to be covered, my sleep schedule was out of whack, and I was exhausted. But after today’s events, I knew sleep was going to elude me.

On the bright side, little Ruthie was doing better, although we were keeping her overnight to make sure she stayed that way.

After signing the forms electronically, I handed the tablet back to the nurse, then did a doubletake when I noticed Chad Stravinski, the hospital’s CEO, walking toward me in a shirt and tie. Not only because it was a Sunday, and he never worked on Sundays, but he was also in the ER. He never came to the emergency room unless it was, well, an emergency.

But he was all smiles as he accompanied a young, pretty brunette wearing a cream-colored pantsuit and navy-blue blouse, so I wondered what was up.

Aw crap, are we being audited?

He looked directly at me as they approached, and when he was a few feet away, proclaimed, “Here’s the man of the hour!”

I looked around, trying to figure out who he was talking about, but there were no other males around. I pointed to my chest and mouthed, “Me?”

“Of course! Dr. Weaver, this is Camille Harris. She’s a journalist from The Meridian, and she wants to do a story on the Terminator doctor!”

Huh?

“I don’t understand—”

“You’re all the rage!” Chad declared with a grin.

“I’m ‘all the rage’? What are you talking about?”

“Griff Hayes and Dylan Wilder posted about you on their social media, and the internet is going crazy.”

“Who?”

Camille chimed in. “Griff Hayes and Dylan Wilder? The outdoor adventurers with over two million followers?”

I shook my head in confusion. “Never heard of ’em.”

She showed me her phone. It was a picture of me with the Hiker Bros.

“But I didn’t even tell them my name.”

“Okay, millennial.”

Camille didn’t actually say the words out loud, but her expression did.

“It’s the internet. People figured out who you are in like, ten minutes after they posted the photo.”

Fucking internet.

Apparently it put small town gossip to shame.

“Wait, so they posted about my prosthetics?”

Fuuuuuck!

“Yes. ‘Terminator doc’ is trending.”

Like I gave a shit about “trending”.

I absolutely did not want to give an interview, but since my boss was walking the woman around personally, I knew “no” wasn’t an option.

But I didn’t have time right then.

“Listen, I gotta go take care of something, but text me and we’ll schedule a time to chat. Chad can give you my number.”
