The street lamps came back on, and I stood to pack up the camp chairs while Rob and Katelyn did the same.
“Where’d your girl go?”
I wish she were my girl.
I didn’t correct him and just replied, “She had to finish things up with the drone company.”
Katelyn chimed in, “So, what’s the deal between you two? My grandma said Kristy told her you’re not exclusive.”
Rob looked over at me as he pulled the drawstring closed on his chair cover. “I have a hard time believing you’re okay with that.”
“We’re not labeling things right now. But I’m not seeing anyone else, and I don’t think she is either.”
Katelyn scoffed. “But you’re not sure?”
My friend shook his head. “That seems like something you should know.”
I didn’t disagree.
But Kristy was like a cornered animal when it came to discussing our relationship. I wasn’t going to push it.
“I do know,” I said with more confidence than I was entitled.
“I hope you’re right,” Rob grumbled.
Yeah, me too.
Still, I replied, “I’m not worried.”
Chapter Twenty-One
Kristy
The parking lot was almost empty by the time I was able to leave the park.
I might have been more nervous walking to my car alone, had it not been for a black Jeep parked next to my convertible.
Justin got out when I approached, and I told him, “You didn’t have to wait for me.”
He put his hand on my hip when he leaned down to kiss my cheek
“I just wanted to make sure you got to your car safely.”
“That was really thoughtful of you. Thanks.”
This man was putting every guy I’d ever dated to shame.
“And I wanted to repeat the invitation to come to my place. Maybe you could bring one of your thrift store t-shirts.” He grinned when he winked at me.
“Maybe tomorrow.”
His face fell. “Oh, okay. I don’t have to go in to work until eight, so you do you want to go out for lunch?”
“No.”
