Chapter Fifty-Nine
JETT
My phone rings as I’m getting ready to leave the tattoo shop. The screen flashes Jagger so I answer it as I open the door to go to my car.
“McKinley is losing her mind. Is Mia with you?”
Instantly I stop walking.
“No. She is with McKinley. Or at least supposed to be. Maybe she is running late because of the storm. The power went out at the house earlier."
Jagger says, “She’s more than late, they were supposed to meet over two hours ago. McKinley came home and said Mia never showed up and has not answered any of her calls or texts.”
“Shit man, I was getting some ink done and didn’t realize how late it had gotten. Fuck. I knew I should not have let her leave the house alone. Meet me at home and then I’m going to need your help finding her.”
“I’m there, man. Anything you need. We’ll leave now.”
He disconnects the call. I rush to my car, quickly slamming my door shut and peeling out of the parking lot at high speed.. I’m hoping she is at my house but not expecting to find her there. She would never blow off McKinley if she had any other choice. At the very least, there would be a text letting her know she isn’t coming.
I pull up to my house and park in the circular driveway, get out of my car and run to the front door. When I move across the entry-way to the living room, I yell her name.
“Angel!”
She doesn’t respond so I keep searching for her. I head straight to my bedroom thinking maybe she took a nap and didn’t wake up when her phone rang. I walk through the open door and there’s a fucking naked man on my floor.
“What the fuck?” I say out loud to absolutely no one other than myself. He is covered in blood and looks like he has been stabbed at least a hundred times.
I move into the bathroom and first spot Samantha dead on the floor, her hair appears to be drenched along with her shirt and she has also been stabbed. None of it makes sense until I spot the movement beside the toilet.
Mia sits crouched down, covered in blood, and trembling to a point that it almost looks like a convulsion. In her right hand she clutches the knife in her hand like she’s in a war zone. Her eyes are wide and she doesn’t see me. Her gaze appears far away. I’ve never seen anyone look so afraid in my life. I move to her slowly as my lungs threaten to seize on me.
“Angel.” I say and she stays silent.
I touch her hand and she waves the knife in front of my face with no real aim but I retract my hand.
Jagger and McKinley come up behind me and I can’t see them but I did hear them.
“Stay back.” I warn as McKinley sobs loudly.
“She’s in shock,” Jagger says, “We need the doctor to come see her. We cannot take her to a hospital.”
I agree with him because it certainly appears to me that she killed two people and that’s not something she can handle dealing with right now.
“Jagger, I need your help getting this knife out of her hand before she hurts herself.”
After he calls the doctor he comes over beside me and squats down as I am.
“Hold her wrists and I’ll get the knife.” He says.
I fucking hate doing this knowing we’re probably scaring her worse than she already is but I cannot risk her hurting herself.
I talk to her while I’ve got her wrists.
“Angel, I know this is terrifying but I’m here. I’m not going to let anyone hurt you.”
Jagger takes the knife from her and I pull her into my arms and cradle her like you would a baby.
She has a large cut on her cheek and I wonder if she did that to herself or if one of these assholes did. I’d also really love to know who the fuck this man is and why he was naked in my house. Somehow I think it might be a little while before I have the answer to that question.
