She lets out an audible sigh and replies, “I don’t know the exact date, only that it’s anywhere between now and a few months. So, soon.”

Placing my hand on the side of her neck, settling my thumb just under her jaw, I say, “He will not touch you. What he did to you before, is fucking over.”

She swallows hard, closing her eyes before taking a deep breath nervously.

“I love you,” she whispers.

“Absolutely fucking not.” I growl causing her eyes to pop open as she stares at me warily.

“Let’s try that again, Angel. You’ll look at me when you say those words to me. Every. Damn. Time.”

Mia pulls her bottom lip between her teeth before releasing it and smiling softly.

“I love you,” she says, and my heart fucking pounds in my chest like a damn drum. This woman. For years, I’ve wanted her and never did I allow myself to believe that I’d have her, like this.

“I love you too, Angel.”

And for the first time in my life words to a song appear in my mind that are so different from anything else I’ve ever written.

There’s no anger.

No hurt.

No pain.

It’s all Mia.

Love, acceptance, and light. So much fucking light.

I don’t deserve any of it. I should be living in the dark where I belong. My angel is a gift I know I’ll do anything to keep. There are no boundaries because living without her is the denial of oxygen. She’s everything I need to survive.

Once a junkie always a junkie.

She’s become my addiction. There’s no rehab for this, no twelve step program. Mia has infected my soul, and it’s a life long condition. The truth is, even if there were a way out of this sickness, I wouldn’t take it.

Chapter Forty-Seven

MIA

The last three weeks have been nothing short of magical, but the time has come and Jett has to go back to work tonight. According to their agent, too long of a hiatus is bad for business. Jagger and Jett both wanted to take more time off, but Jake and Hendrix are single and ready to hit the stage. Probably the groupies too. I don’t care about the women because I’ll be there and I know Jett will be faithful. The drugs were my only concern, but Jagger assured me they have taken precautions to be sure this is a dry tour. Still, I’m nervous because a relapse at this point would be heartbreaking.

We walk into the concert hall for tonight's performance, hand in hand. This is a brand new venue in Detroit, Michigan built six months ago. Jett keeps telling me what an honor it is to be the first band to perform here. They all kind of look the same to me, but I smile and nod at his excitement.

After going through the stage door he stops abruptly, pulling me to him. Pulling my hand up to his lips, he kisses the back of my hand with tenderness.

“I know you’re worried, Angel. I promise you, everything will be okay.”

Wrapping my arms around him, I hold him tight, “I trust you, Jett. I’m just in my head about it.”

Moving his hands to my face, he cups my cheeks and stares into my eyes.

“I wish I had time to take you out of your head, Angel. For now, I need you to trust me.”

I nod and he says, “Good girl,” with a devilish grin.

Jett kisses me softly before we continue walking through the sparkling new venue. The smell of fresh paint still lingers in the space.
