Brandy huffs but gets back behind the bar. Meanwhile, I feel Lu’s judgment like a heat wave. “Shouldn’t you be making your wife feel welcome, Suit? It’s her first day here. Imagine how overwhelming it must be for her.”
“She’s fine,” I reply, downing the rest of my drink in one swallow. “She’s getting to know everyone.”
“Everyone except the man she should be getting to know. We added her into the Baddies group chat. Even if you didn’t choose her, you still agreed to take her as your wife. She’s your responsibility.”
“Lu, I know,” I grit out, clenching my teeth. “It’s going to be an adjustment for both of us.”
“Well, at least Lore is making her feel welcome.” She smirks, looking over to where he’s kissing my wife’s fucking hand. Haze and War are standing next to him, and I’m guessing their women are making them put in an effort.
“Thank you for making the cake.”
“You’re welcome,” she replies, her tone softening. “She said it was the nicest thing anyone has ever done for her.”
My brow furrows. “She’s a spoiled, rich princess. I highly doubt that.”
“I’m surprised by you, Suit,” Lu judges, sliding off the stool. “You’re normally the least judgmental. Elena is a lovely woman. You could do much worse.” She storms off.
I lean back against the bar and take a deep breath. It’s easy for everyone else to say, since they aren’t the ones who just threw away their life and freedom.
My eyes snap to the pole room, where I’d usually be right about now, getting my dick sucked by one or more of the women.
Angel is usually in there with me. We’ve shared women before, and we both like to play games and have a little fun. He’s probably in there right now enjoying himself, while I’m here feeling like shit for hurting my wife’s feelings for not wanting to fuck her.
And then I didn’t even feed her the fucking cake, only realizing when the moment passed. I was lost in my own thoughts, wondering what the hell my life will look like going forward.
“You’re currently on all the old ladies’ shit list.” Bones laughs as he sits in the spot Lu just vacated. It’s like a fucking game of musical chairs with everyone giving me their unwanted opinions before disappearing.
“Tell me about it.”
“You’re usually one of their favorites,” he adds, rubbing it in further. “Elena seems nice. Meredith likes her, and you know she has good taste.”
“She does seem… nice.”
Way too fucking nice for me.
Bones smirks, as if reading my mind. “You going to fuck her or what?”
“No.”
“Then you’re going to fuck around on her?” he asks, no judgment in his tone, just curiosity. “She might not be your usual type, but she’s still all yours. Doesn’t that make you a little possessive?”
“I don’t know her, Bones. I thought I was marrying her sister, the bad one. Instead, I got the good one.”
“All women are bad, brother. The difference is the good ones are only bad for their man.”
As I contemplate his words, he gets up and goes over to his old lady. My eyes find Elena’s, and that must give her some confidence because she walks over to me. She’s changed into a loose, black dress, one that hides her shape like the first time I saw her.
“Your family is pretty wonderful,” she says, a small smile playing on her face.
“They are,” I agree, frowning when her sleeves ride up as she reaches up to tuck her hair back behind her ear. Gripping her wrist, I push the sleeves up to see some bruising there. Fingerprints. She flinches, moving her head away from me as if bracing for something.
“Who did this to you?” I ask in a dangerous tone.
“Oh, it was nothing.” She shrugs, pulling her hand out of my hold. “I bruise easily.”
“Elena,” I growl, cupping her face and turning it back toward me. “I’d never hurt you, princess.”
She flashes me a fake smile. “Of course.” She quickly gets up and walks over to Romeo, saying something that makes him laugh.
