I hold the dress against my tightening chest until he leaves the room, only then letting it fall to the floor.
As I step out of it, I turn to the mirror on the closet door and stare at myself in my wedding lingerie.
It’s my fault for asking, for hoping. He doesn’t want me. He doesn’t think I’m even good enough for a fuck from my husband.
My heart hurts.
My eyes linger on the soft white lace bridal corset that laces up at the back, with a matching white thong and garter belt with a pretty satin bow. My pierced nipples strain against the material, begging to be played with.
I thought I would be losing my virginity to my husband tonight.
Instead, I’m left all alone.
And my own husband doesn’t want me.
ELENA
After taking a few cute pictures of me in my lingerie set just so I can have the memories, there’s a soft knock at the door. Assuming it’s Suit, before I can tell him I’m not dressed yet, the door opens.
But it’s not my husband standing there.
It’s a handsome stranger with two different colored eyes and a suitcase in each hand.
His eyes hungrily roam over my body before he can mask it. “Fuck, I’m so sorry.” He mutters something that sounds like, “He’s going to kill me.”
“Uh, it’s okay. Just leave the suitcases there,” I say, picking up Suit’s T-shirt and holding it in front of me. I’m sure my cheeks are bright red.
Of course, the first man to see me in something like this is a total stranger and not my husband. Not that my husband would give a shit.
“Thank you,” I call out when he’s about to close the door. “I’m Elena, by the way.”
“Romeo,” he says before the door shuts.
Scrubbing a hand down my face with a groan, I take a quick shower and pull out one of my black dresses from the suitcase. I leave the pearl clips in my hair.
I’m gathering my courage to leave the room when a woman sticks her head inside, smiling when she sees me. “Can I come in?”
“Yes.”
The woman is beautiful, with brown skin, blue eyes, and a body I’m sure has men on their knees. “Hi, Elena, I’m Ora,” she introduces herself, offering me her hand. “I was at your wedding. You looked beautiful.”
If only those words came from my husband’s lips. “Thank you. It’s nice to meet you, Ora.”
“Do you want to come down and meet the other women? It’s okay if you don’t. I understand it must be really daunting for you to be here right now,” she murmurs, sighing. “But we made you something.”
“You made me something?” I ask, brow furrowing.
“Yes.” She grins, offering me her hand. “Please come and see it. If you want to hide back in your room after, I’ll bring you right back.”
There’s a warmth in her gaze that has me taking her hand. She leads me back down the stairs and then into a bar.
And right there in the middle of the room, on a table, is the most gorgeous wedding cake I’ve ever seen. It has three layers with pretty pink and white flowers. “Lu and I made it for you. I hope you like it. Every bride needs a beautiful cake on their big day.”
“It’s gorgeous,” I whisper, my eyes eating it up. No one has ever done anything like this for me, and the fact that these women have—women who don’t even know me—makes my eyes water. “Thank you so much.”
Lu steps forward and introduces herself, along with Atiana, Isla, Xanthe, and Meredith. They are all stunning women, and I suddenly feel even more frumpy in comparison.
“Do you like it? We went with one vanilla layer, one chocolate, and one ribbon cake. We figured that was safe,” Lu explains, her breath hitching when the first tear falls.
