SUIT

There was a time many years ago that I thought I’d found the woman I wanted to marry—Jade, my college sweetheart. She was everything I thought I wanted—smart, classy, and sexy. She knew what she wanted, and she took it. At the time, I found that so fucking enticing.

I made her my old lady. I had the ring. And then I found her fucking another lawyer. I guess she wanted him, so she took him.

I never thought I’d settle down again, and I never wanted to get married.

Yet, here I am, standing at the front of a church, waiting for my bride to walk down the aisle.

The things I do for this club.

Although Prez assured me this marriage can be in name only, I’m still going to have a fucking wife to look after, and a Bratva princess at that.

What the hell am I going to do with her?

I’ve spent the last month fucking my freedom away. But if I’m being honest with myself, I’ve been doing that ever since Jade betrayed me seven years ago.

“You look like you’re waiting for a judge to hand you a life sentence,” Angel mutters from beside me. He’s one of my closest brothers in the MC, and it feels right having him by my side.

“Isn’t that what this is?” I reply so only he can hear.

I haven’t seen my bride since that first meeting, and I haven’t spoken to her. I was told to show up here in a suit, so here I am. Prez, War, and most of my brothers are sitting, some with their old ladies, watching me sign away my freedom, while a few of them are checking the perimeter.

As I scan the crowd, my gaze stops on Meredith, Bones’ old lady. She smiles and gives me a thumbs-up. She’s a psychologist, and I might be needing her after this.

Jesus Christ, what am I doing?

Am I really legally marrying a woman I only met once? Does she want to marry me? How will she take knowing this marriage will be in name only? How the fuck is a Bratva princess going to survive in the clubhouse until the house I’m building on the property is ready?

What a shit show.

Music starts to play, and I take a deep breath, taking longer than I should to turn around and face my bride. Before I know it, she’s standing right in front of me, a white veil covering her face. I notice how much shorter she is than me, only coming up to my chest.

“For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health…”

My throat works as I swallow, my shirt collar suddenly feeling tight. Angel elbows me, pulling me back into focus.

“Say I do,” he mutters.

I clear my throat. “I do.”

“Do you, Elena, take…”

The whole thing is a blur. I don’t want to be here.

“I do,” she replies, her voice a soft caress.

Angel hands me the rings. I take her hand in mine and slide it on her ring finger. She takes my ring and does the same for me.

“You may now kiss the bride.”

Fuck.

Lifting the veil, I frown when my gaze meets pale green eyes framed by thick, dark lashes. This isn’t the sister I thought I was going to marry, the one who was eating me up with her eyes.

No, this is the other sister. The nerdy one who took her Kindle to dinner, and this makes things even worse for me. I told Simeon I wanted the other sister, the one I thought might have had a better chance of fitting in at the clubhouse.

Elena looks different than the last time I saw her. Maybe it’s because she’s not wearing her glasses, or maybe because her wedding gown is a little more fitted, showing off a small waist and bigger hips. Her sister was thinner and less curvy. She’s wearing light makeup, and her full pink lips are begging to be kissed.
