“Does that bother you?” he asked, still staring at the ceiling.
It was her turn to roll onto her back. “Does it bother you?”
“Sammy, come on. Don’t play games. Are you okay with our pending annulment?
No. No, she was not okay.
In her dream world, she and Nate could make this work. They’d already figured out how to handle long distance. Their chemistry was off the charts. Besides, they’d known each other since forever. He was her true partner.
A montage of the last two months of them feigning marriage played in her head. Of course, there were a few hiccups, but all in all, they had bonded. She’d never felt closer to anyone. Ever.
“I get it,” Nate interjected, getting out of bed. “You’re not hurting my feelings. We feel the same way. This was always going to be short-term. I’m getting in the shower. When we’re both ready, do you want to walk around Central Park?”
She bit her lip and nodded in agreement. Not that he saw, since his back was toward her as he stomped off to the shower.
Little did he know, they did not feel the same way.
WHAT THE HELLjust happened?
Nate let the hot water run down his back while he aggressively washed his hair. Last night, they made out like a couple teenagers, he fingered her to orgasm, then they wrapped up around each other when they went to bed.
Now, she wasn’t sure if she was going to miss being married to him?
Those fucking rules were in place so neither one of them got hurt, but it was happening regardless. She was flying back to California tomorrow, so he was going to make the most out of today with her.
As friends.
He couldn’t handle pretending anything else anymore.
