This is my house. Elena is somewhere inside it.
Realistically, who’s going to stop me?
I head upstairs.
The door to our room is partially open. I knock once before pushing it wider.
And stop.
Elena is facing me.
Surprisingly, she’s alone.
For once, there isn’t a family member, makeup artist, or woman carrying something sharp standing between me and my wife.
There’s only her.
Ivory falls softly over her small frame, fitted through her body before spilling into a long, fluid skirt. Lucia’s necklace rests at her throat.
She’s beautiful every day.
Elena never has to try very hard for that.
But this—
This is different.
She looks like my bride.
In less than an hour, she’ll walk through our garden toward me wearing her mother’s necklace and that dress, and everyone we know will watch her become my wife.
Officially.
For a second, I can’t breathe.
“Princesa.”
Her expression softens for exactly one second.
Then her eyes widen.
“Luciano!”
Her nose crinkles.
I laugh.
“You’re not supposed to be in here.”
“I know.”
“Then why are you here?”
“I wanted to see you.”
“That doesn’t make it allowed.”
“It was enough for me.”
