I tilt my head, pretending to consider it. “I don’t know. I might decide I want it at my shoulders.”

“No.”

I stare at him through the mirror. “It’s my hair.”

“I’m aware.”

“Then you don’t get a vote.”

His jaw shifts. “I have an opinion.”

“A deeply unreasonable one.”

The corner of his mouth lifts. “You like my unreasonable opinions.”

Unfortunately, I do.

I lean closer to the mirror and smooth gloss over my lips. “You could fall in love with the new version of me.”

His eyes meet mine.

“I’d love every version of you.”

My hand pauses near my mouth.

He says things like that so easily now. Like loving me is an established fact that belongs beside the cameras, the guards, and his coffee waiting beside mine every morning.

My cheeks warm.

Luciano notices. Of course he does.

He bends and presses his mouth beneath my ear. “I’m still allowed to be attached to this hair.”

“It’s hair.”

“It’s your hair.”

“I’m trimming it. My bangs need it.”

“Then why did you threaten me with your shoulders?”

“Because your face was funny.”

“We’ll discuss that tonight.”

“There is nothing to discuss.”

“There’s always something to discuss.” His hand comes around from behind, curving loosely over the front of my throat, his thumb brushing once beneath my jaw. “We still have plenty to discuss from your questionnaire.”

I glance at him. “Are we still going through my questionnaire?”

“Oh yes.”

The certainty in his voice sends warmth slipping lower through my body.

“I thought we had covered most of it.”

“We’re nowhere near finished.”
