His mouth twitches.

“I pictured myself wandering dramatically through the halls while you conduct cartel business somewhere in the distance.”

“You can still wander dramatically.”

“Good.”

I turn back toward the sink and resume brushing.

Luciano remains behind me, one arm still secured around my waist, watching me in the mirror like he has nowhere more important to be.

The realization hits me with an embarrassingly soft ache.

I rinse my mouth and set the toothbrush down.

“Do you have an office in Florida?”

“I do. Lucero Tower One.”

“Hm. Couldn’t think of a better name? Anyway, I’d like to see it.”

His gaze sharpens on my reflection, he ignores my barb. “You want to go to Florida?”

I turn around again. “Why wouldn’t I?”

Florida isn’t another afternoon at Obsidian or an evening in one of his restaurants. Florida is where he lived before me. It’s his main home. Somewhere he likely plans to return to. His businesses are there. His other house. The parts of his life that existed before I stepped into them.

I want to see all of it.

“After Obsidian opens,” he says. “We’ll give it a month. Make sure everything here is running the way it should.”

“And then?”

“Then we’ll go.”

“We?”

“You and me, princesa.”

Something in my stomach turns over.

“For business?”

“For a vacation.”

I blink at him.

Luciano says the word vacation like it belongs on an agenda.

“I’ll show you the office,” he continues. “The house. Everything you want to see.”

“Everything?”

“Within reason.”

“That restriction feels unnecessary.”

“It’s necessary whenever you’re involved.”
