“I brought your breakfast upstairs.”
Something soft blooms inside me.
I crush it immediately.
“Oh. You’re leaving me.”
His eyes narrow.
“The special treatment?” I question.
“I feed you every morning.”
“I know, but usually downstairs. Breakfast in bed feels suspiciously like compensation.”
He presses another kiss beneath my ear.
“I’m going to Lucero Tower Two today.”
“Your new office. I knew it.”
“You knew nothing.”
“You’re softening me up before abandoning me.”
“I’m not abandoning you.”
“That is exactly what someone preparing to abandon me would say.”
A quiet chuckle leaves him, vibrating against my back and slipping beneath my skin.
“You’re coming with me.”
I stop.
“To your office?”
“Yes.”
I turn in his arms, toothbrush still in my hand. “So I get to see the new office and Obsidian now. Wow, look at me gaining VIP access?”
He chuckles. “Enough. If you want to go to Obsidian afterward we can.”
“Obviously.”
His hand settles at the base of my spine.
“You say that as though we haven’t gone almost every day.”
“Yes, but the club is almost open and there are more rooms I want to play in while it’s still empty.”
“It will not be empty.”
“Oh?”
“Staff will be there. Deliveries. Security.”
I wave the toothbrush dismissively. “No matter, those are background characters.”
