The whole club stands up and the doctor looks around, “I’m sorry immediate family only for now.”
Devil grabs Liz’s hand and they begin coming over. He looks at his children and nods for them to follow. Then looks at Knox, the babies and myself. “You guys come too. You’re also immediate family. You’re his ol’ lady, those are his babies. Thorn, son, you too.”
So the doctor leads what I am sure is a bigger group than he thought over to a private room to talk with us. This room looks like a room you take family to when it is bad news and my heart starts pounding in my chest.
“Let’s all have a seat shall we.”
We all go to sit down and I am in full on panic mode at this point. Knox places the two baby seats he had down and takes the third one from me. Thankfully I was able to nurse the babies and they are now sleeping.
“So I know Dr. Montgomery and that is why I am going to give you it all straight and why this has not gone to the police. So the good news is he is stable. We got the internal bleeding under control from the severe trauma and impact of whatever was used to beat him. We did have to repair his liver and remove his spleen because of stab wounds that punctured those two organs. We stitched up all the wounds he had and made sure that no arteries had been pierced. He had been stabbed a couple of times in the stomach, a couple of times in each leg and arms. I believe that the stab would on the stomach came after all the beatings and the torture, it would see that was done to him. He was shot probably after all of that. The shot to the shoulder was taken care of we got the bullet out and everything looked fine. He will need rehab for all those injuries and to take it easy for a little while. He also has a concussion and good news is that there were no brain bleeds. He is going to be in a lot of pain when he wakes up. But he appears to have a lot of people that love him and will take care of him.”
“We will doc. Now when can we see my boy?” Devil asks and I see that Rage flinches at the term Devil uses and I don’t understand what his problem is. I may never understand what his problem is.
I am so thankful for the fact that while Cooper may have a long way to go with recovery, it appears he is going to make it and be just fine.
“You can see him as soon as they move him to a room from recovery. A nurse will come grab you and really should probably only have a few of you at a time. I see he has a big family just right here and I know there are men that are his family out there, but we would ask that you all take turns sitting with him. I know that might be hard to ask, but we believe it is for the best of the patient at this time. Once he starts to feel better we can possibly have more at a time.”
“Thanks Doc. We appreciate it.”
Devil stands up and shakes the doctor’s hand before the doctor heads out of the room and leaves us there.
“So I think Peyton, you should head up to see him once he is out of recovery. You probably can stay with him the whole time and then we will work our way up with two at a time or whatever. I know that most of those brothers aren’t going to leave until they know he is awake and doing alright. Knox, I think we should also talk to the nurse about you and the kids counting as like a person. So you can stay up there with Peyton as well. I was hoping that I could get the room for a moment to talk to my kids. If that is okay with you all. Please let me know when they come and tell you we can see him.”
I nod my head and grab one of the babies, while Knox and Thorn grab the other two. When we head out to the waiting area we fill everyone in and you can feel the tension leave the room as we give them the update the doctor gave us. Now we just have to wait til he gets a room out of recovery and I hope that is soon. I want to lay eyes on him now.
Chapter Thirty-Three
Devil
After watching Peyton, Knox, Thorn and the babies leave I was left with my beautiful patient wife, Caleb, Trevor, Bethany, Cassie, Adam, Brock, Rip, Samantha, Bailey and Ashton. Our large chaotic family that I have never been so grateful for. With everything that has gone on, I have not been able to sit down with any of the kids and explain to them what was going on and some of them are way too little to understand. The conversation that was just had with the doctor also might have been too much for them, but now I have to give them the information that I have been dying to share since I found out this morning. I wish this was going to be easier, but I know that it is not.
Caleb is going to prove to be the most difficult for whatever reason. The boy had eight years without me in his life, you would think that the boy that I didn’t meet until then would not be upset when I found out another one of my sons was kept from me.
“So I think we need to sit down as a family and discuss some things.”
“You mean to tell us why the heck we are in a family meeting about what is going on with Whip?” Trevor asks.
“It’s pretty obvious there Trevor. Daddy’s got another baby.” Caleb sneers.
“Okay, this is not going to happen. You are not going to act like this Caleb, if you are going to act like this you can leave. I need to talk to your brothers and sisters. If you don’t want to be a part of that conversation then go. If you think you have all the answers, head on out.”
He glares at me, but shuts up and doesn’t say anything. This boy cares about his siblings. He wants to be here for all of them. No matter what is going on. Especially the little ones. He was fifteen when Beth was born and that boy would take bullets for his family even when he is angry at any of us.
“Alright, so the reason we are here and why we were the immediate family of Cooper is because this morning we found out that he is my son. His mother was a club girl over twenty-nine years ago and disappeared, apparently pregnant with Cooper.” I look over at my littlest babies and sigh, hopefully they won’t remember a time without Cooper being their big brother. “Cooper was lied to about who his father was and obviously never told me about him. So I want you guys to know that Cooper is your big brother. I hope that you will ALL welcome him to our family. No matter what, we are a family. I want to get to know Cooper as my son and I am sure he wants to get to know me as his father and all of you as his brothers and sisters.”
“So are there going to be any other siblings popping out of the woodwork here?” Caleb snarks at me.
I look at Liz, “Take the kids out of here please.”
Liz nods her head and then gathers our little group of chaos.
After they are out the door I spin on Caleb.
“What in the hell is your problem? If anyone should be understanding about years without an actual father it should be you! You also know all the shit Cooper has been through!”
Caleb stands up from his chair and puts his hands on the table and leans towards me, peeking over his shoulder at Trevor.
“It has nothing to do with Cooper and everything to do with you! Do you know what a fucking condom is? You just keep fucking women bare or something? Knocking bitches up left and right not giving a shit if you got them pregnant or not. Leaving all these kids without their father! Do you even care or think about what you are doing?”
