Muriel didn't have much of a choice. Liam's fingers moved expertly inside her, and she couldn't keep quiet no matter how hard she tried. She repeated his name like a litany, her hips swaying in time with Liam's beat.

“Good lass,” Liam whispered in her ear. He slid an arm under her waist; holding her still with his weight on top of her and Muriel was powerless to his attentions. All she could do was writhe and moan in his arms; muscles tightening as she approached her climax.

Her relief came all at once, her entire body tensing and then relaxing, all her worries leaving her. Muriel called out Liam's name, and he kissed her sounds away as he removed his fingers.

“Do ye think ye could take some more?” Liam teased. Muriel knew he wasn’t really expecting an answer but she nodded anyway; letting Liam roll her over so that she was face-down on the bed. Liam pulled her hips up and she could feel his gaze on her as he grabbed her buttocks, burning like a branding iron.

When Liam moved behind her, the first thing she noticed was his length pressing firmly against her folds. When he finally breached her, she struggled to keep her hips from moving and taking him in, her fingers curling into the sheets. Muriel shivered on the bed after the first drag of his manhood against her, the pleasure making her knees buckle. Liam steadied her with one hand on each hip and then began to move his hips briskly. Each thrust shook the entire bed and Muriel had to muffle her moans with a pillow this time.

There’s nae way they willnae hear me if I dinnae do somethin’. I cannae stop.

It was the most pleasure Muriel had ever experienced in her life. The first time they slept together had opened up a whole new world of desire for her, but there was none of the gentleness that Liam had displayed at the beach this time. He was rough, treating Muriel the way he wanted, and she loved every minute of it.

But then, at the same time, he grew tender. Liam's hands were soft where he held he, and once she was able to steady her own legs, he began to caress every part of her body that he could reach. It was a stark contrast to his feverish thrusts, which had Muriel gasping and begging for more.

“Aye, I’ll give ye anythin’ ye want, mo ghràdh,” Liam said. “Anythin’ ye want, as long as yer mine and I’m yers.”

Muriel could be lost in the fantasy of it all for a while. She could imagine this future for them; spending every night like this with Liam, every day by his side. She desired to be his, to be his body and soul. She wanted him to be hers as well, to be hers alone.

Muriel felt the sensations pile up inside her, one after the other, until her second orgasm claimed her. Her knees gave out again, and she fell onto the mattress, but Liam continued to thrust into her, his sexual advances relentless. Muriel was a moaning, trembling mess on the sheets, her body oversensitive from his caresses, and he seemed just as out of it, whispering her name in her ear along with a string of curses and sweet nothings.

Muriel felt Liam's release inside her after a few out-of-rhythm thrusts. Drops of sweat dripped from the ends of his hair onto her back as he stood still above her. When he pulled out, she instantly missed the feeling.

Liam sighed contentedly and smiled as he slid onto the mattress next to her. Muriel turned to face him, his warmth enveloping every part of her body as he drew her into his arms. She traced his face with her fingers, the tips brushing over the straight line of his nose, the sharp angle of his jaw, and the slope of his cheeks, as if trying to remember everything. Liam laughed softly and turned his head to press his lips against her palm.

“Tell me where yer chambers are,” Liam said quietly, in an almost conspiratorial tone.

Muriel frowned at the request. “Why?” she asked, her hand never still on his face.

“Because I’ll come for ye tomorrow,” he said. “I need to ken where it is.”

Muriel's joy faded at that point. Liam was such a stubborn man that she didn't know how to deal with him. She had told him numerous times to leave, but he would not listen.

Tellin’ him to leave willnae work. But I cannae tell him where me chambers are.

“The south wing,” she lied. “The furthest room from the stairs.”

In reality, it was a small library where Muriel loved to spend her time as a child. All her favourite books had been there ever since her father let her choose the ones she liked the most and place them there, just for the two of them to read.

It had once been one of Muriel’s fondest memories but now it was tarnished by everything her father had done.

“Good,” Liam said; pressing a gentle kiss on her forehead before he closed his eyes with a sigh, looking more content than Muriel had ever seen him before. “I’ll be there, lass. Tomorrow night.”

Liam had barely finished his sentence when he nodded off, his final words drifting into silence and then deep, even breaths. He appeared tired even then, and Muriel couldn't blame him. She wondered how many nights he had spent awake, like her, thinking about his plans or the two of them.

She watched him sleep for a few moments, her hand brushing his hair off his brow. With the sharp angles of his bones and the soft curves of his full lips, he was truly handsome. Even when he was sleeping, he appeared innocent, almost boyish, as if he had never touched a blade.

Muriel knew she had to leave, as much as she wished she could stare at him endlessly. She slid away from him as quietly and slowly as she could to avoid disturbing him and walked to the door. She looked over her shoulder at Liam, ensuring that he was still sleeping, despite the fact that his soft snores were sufficient indication. She just wanted to look at him one more time.

Then she was out of the room, quietly closing the door behind her. It hurt her to think that Liam would wake up the next morning and she would be nowhere to be found. It hurt her even more to know she had deceived him. But she hoped that whatever his plan was, he'd abandon it once he realized she'd led him to the wrong room.

Maybe then he’ll understand that I dinnae want him to save me.

Muriel dashed back into her chamber. It was late enough that there was no one in the corridors, not even servants, but Muriel was well aware that there were always guards patrolling. She was lucky not to run into any of them, and she cursed herself under her breath for not thinking of an excuse for her late-night stroll before going to see Liam.

She leaned against the door of her room, letting go of the breath she had been holding. Her heart raced in her chest, not because she was afraid of being caught, but because she remembered every detail of her time with Liam, every touch, every kiss. She drew her bottom lip between her teeth, biting down hard, as the memories replayed in her mind, as if she were experiencing them again.

How will I ever forget him? How will I stop thinkin’ about him when all I wish to do is fall back into his arms?

She couldn't help but wonder if her belief that she'd forget about him once she arrived in Lewis was just wishful thinking. Liam had become a part of her, and losing him would be as painful as losing a limb. How could she ever bear it?

How can I move on?
