Sheepishly, I followed him to the door trying not to think of how much I wanted him. I couldn’t believe he was just going to leave me like this.

He laughed when he saw my face, as he prepared to leave.

“Stop pouting,” he said, taking my chin in his hand and tilting my face up to his.

“I’m not pouting.” I said, still pouting.

“You are. But it’s cute.” He kissed me again then and this time, he deepened the kiss, and I greedily met his tongue.

Abruptly he pulled back, took a deep breath and said, “Have a good night, Piper.”

And just like that he was gone. I closed the door after his car departed and locked it. Ty had practiced great reserve. I wondered what exactly were his rules? I just hoped they didn’t include celibacy, because I wanted Ty so bad I needed a hot shower to take the edge off. So with that I cut off the TV and made my way to the bathroom, thoughts of Ty in my mind.

“You’re doing it all wrong,” he said, coming up to stand behind me. “You’re supposed to swing from your hips. You’re putting too much arm into it. And you’re twisting too much.”

“Everyone’s a critic.”

“I’m just trying to help.”

“You’re just checking out my butt.”

“Yes,” he admitted with a smile, “I’m doing that too.”

I laughed. We were playing golf at the local course near Ty’s community. It had been Ty’s idea. I secretly think he just wanted to see me in a little skirt.

I took a swing at the ball and it went flying through the air and landed about ten feet away. That would have been impressive if I hadn’t been aiming for the hole that was literally like a foot away from me.

“Great shot,” Ty said, holding back a laugh.

I shook my golf club at him. “You haven’t made one shot yet. Like at all.”

“That’s because I don’t want to embarrass you.”

“I’m starting to think you don’t even know how to play.”

He shrugged. “I might have exaggerated my golf playing prowess a little bit.”

“A little bit?” I shot him a look.

“Ok. Maybe a lot. I’ve only played mini-golf. I just wanted to drive the little cart around.”

“No wonder all your tips were so horrible. ‘Wiggle your hips, Piper.’ ‘Lean into the shot, Piper.’”

“Hey, that was a good tip. I’m sure all the pros use it.”

“And I’m sure that you don’t know what you’re talking about.”

He slung an arm around my shoulder. “Oh ye of little faith...”

I smiled and wrapped an arm around his waist. It felt good to be around him. I was learning so much about him. I didn’t know he had such a boyish, playful side, for instance. He always teased me and it was fun to not take myself so seriously. I realized that I had always been the serious person in my previous relationships. It was nice to participate in the ribbing too. I was actually pretty funny, which was a side of me that normally only my friends saw.

We had been dating for about a month now. And things hadn’t heated up in the bedroom at all. Yeah, we had our moments when things came close, but for the most part, Ty planned most of our dates and they normally took place in public outings as if he didn’t trust himself to be alone with me.

To be fair, I didn’t trust myself to be alone with him. He was too much of a temptation.

He took my hand in his and said, “There’s a play at the outdoor theatre today... it’s starting in like an hour. You want to check it out or did you need to get back to work?”

I thought of the meeting I had set up with Dana to go over some marketing stuff. I didn’t want to cancel but I knew Dana wouldn’t want me to miss a date. So I figured I would text her and tell her that there was a change of plans.
