I managed to pull myself together with difficulty. Blue kept his hand on me, offering me his strength.
“It’s fine. Lady Mildred has called the police. For now, protect the building. This is private property and her home,” I ordered.
“It’s a sex club,” my mother screamed, all religious fervour.
“It is a seventy-year-old woman’s house. You are terrorising her, and I won’t allow that.”
“What will you do?” Marion sneered as others backed her up. “You’re nothing but a criminal.”
“You’d know all about that, wouldn’t you?” I mocked as Marion Steeleman, aka my mother, stared at me. Her eyes showed no recognition, and she frowned. The crowd subsided a little.
“Don’t cast stones when you live in a greenhouse,” I taunted. “Your sister was an abusive fuck who is in prison for multiple charges. Isn’t that right?” I snapped back.
“That is none of your business. You’re the whore here, visiting a sex club. You should be on your knees paying for forgiveness,” Marion yelled.
“The last time I knelt for God, I was beaten until I couldn’t walk. Since it was your sister who did it, you’re not in a position to cast stones. You condoned the abuse of a child.”
The crowd became silent as Blue growled from behind me.
“Margaret?” my mother gasped, her eyes popping out of her head. She took in my attire, and her face set. Yup, no twinset and pearls for me.
“That cunt’s your mother? The one who sold a seven-year-old girl to a sadistic bitch who beat her for fifteen years?” Blue snarled.
“What is she talking about?” a protestor demanded. “How’s that linked to this den of sin?”
“Yes, Marion, explain why you’re a two-faced bitch who shouldn’t be here,” I taunted. If Marion were here, then… yup, there he stood, watching from the sidelines. Keith, my father. His eyes stared in horror, and he was as pale as fuck. Yeah, he’d recognised me even when Marion hadn’t.
Marion stammered and stuttered as people began asking what was going on. “You’re trying to distract us! You’re no daughter of mine!” Marion shrieked.
“Nope. Not since I had the court issue several lifelong restraining orders against you.”
Murmurs arose from the crowd.
“Liar!” Marion screamed. I grinned smugly.
“Dirty slut, how dare you cast aspersions on a respected church member?” a man shouted.
“Look up the Reverend Mother Mary Anges scandal; I’m sure you’ll all find it illuminating.” I taunted. “This is your last chance. This is someone’s private home, and you’re intruding. I will have you arrested,” I called.
“Liar! It’s a sex club.”
“You were warned.” I went and sat on the porch. A woman ran towards me, intent on harm, and I pulled my weapon and shot the ground in front of her.
The crowd froze and looked toward me.
“Problem?” I drawled.
“You fired at me!”
“I fired a warning at someone attempting to damage private property which belongs to me and is leased to a private tenant. You’ll find the law is on my side.”
Several police cars arrived, and some uniforms got out. An unmarked car pulled up behind them, and Detective Cassidy appeared.
“What’s going on here?” he demanded, approaching.
“I’m Father McKinney, and we came in peaceful protest against a sex club here. This whore opened fire on us and threatened my flock!” a man snapped.
“Wow, you were here the whole time and never uttered a word. What a damn coward you are, hiding beneath the skirts of women!” I sneered.
