And then she scoots back in my lap and stands up. Releases the clasp of her bra and lets it drop to the floor. Then she slides her shorts and panties over her hips and those drop to the floor too.

She pulls me to my feet and kneels, popping the button on my shorts and dragging them down until my cock springs out. I sit back down and she eases forward between my legs. Her hand already working the shaft of my dick. Her mouth slowly descending onto the tip of my cock. Her lips puckered and her eyes locked with mine.

I put my hand on her head and push her down.

CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE - ADAM

Wendy has been ignoring my calls all day. I need to know how Nathan got a hold of her, if she’s been in contact with him this whole time, and if she’s heard from him since we walked away from the meeting this morning.

I think I know the answers to one of these questions. She has definitely been in contact with him.

I glance down at the bottom drawer of the antique filing cabinet, remembering the packet of secrets I found in my dead brother’s grave.

Well, not his grave, obviously.

I’m just opening the drawer to look at the whole thing again—this time in better light—when a soft knock on my office door stops me.

“What?”

“Can I come in?” Donovan peeks his head in without waiting for my permission.

“What’s up?”

His eyes dart down to the drawer, slightly ajar, then dart back up to me. “I know you said we’d talk about it tomorrow but—”

“Hey.” I put up a hand to stop him, then reach down and grab the plastic packet with the envelopes. “I found this. I think these things belonged to my father. Can you tell me more about these three families?”

Donovan studies the packet in my hand for a few seconds longer than I think is necessary, then reaches for them. “OK.” He empties the contents of all the envelopes onto my desk, then pulls one of the chairs forward so he can see it properly. “Machette. They’re second-tier. Touchable, but if you wanna kill one of them you better have a good reason. Szabó. Absolute nobodies. And Ameci. Not Company.”

“What are you? A fuckin’ walking genealogy record?”

“That’s what you asked for.”

“How do you know all this? I mean, off the top of your head?”

Donovan shrugs with his hands. “Lucky, I guess. So listen—”

“You have to know more. You have to. There needs to be a reason that I found these documents in my dead brother’s coffin.”

“What?”

I walk over to the door, check for eavesdroppers, then close it up. “I know my father was hiding shit. And I have been looking for something like this ever since he died when I was eighteen. Someone sent me a clue the other day.”

“Who?”

“Well, Wendy was the one—”

“Wendy? Wendy, as in Wendy—”

“Yes.”

“Damn. That girl is still around?”

“Never mind that. She came into the possession of a note for me. And it was like a riddle. A riddle that Maggie, correctly, deduced meant something was buried in a cemetery. So we went out—Maggie and I—and dug it up.”

“What the fuck are you talking about? You made Maggie help you rob a grave?”

“We weren’t robbing it.”
