My future is looking the brightest it ever has.
Being away from Boston and the bubble of residency has given me perspective. It’s also made me realize just how much that place has become home. And how much I want that home to become permanent. I’ve cooled on the subject since everything went down with Kendra, but the desire remains.
“Can we talk about buying a place together again?” I blurt.
Logan groans beside me, squeezing me tighter.
“Baby, are you awake?” I ask, patting his arm.
“No,” he mumbles against my neck, making me smile.
“Logaaaaan.”
“How have I never noticed that you’re a fucking giant Energizer Bunny when you wake up?” he pouts.
“Let’s move in together.”
“What are you talking about? We already live together,” he says, rolling away from me and pulling the comforter over his head.
“No, I live with you,” I correct, chasing him to the other side of the bed and molding myself to his back.
He rotates his head to look at me over his shoulder.
“Chase, who the fuck do you think you’d be living with if we buy a condo together?”
I pinch his ass under the covers.
“I’d still live with you, but it would be ours…like, together. I want that. With you. Stability. Passion. Friendship. Cuddles. All of it. In a place we can call home. That is ours to invest in.”
Logan keeps his eyes closed, but I can see his smile.
“Get up. We need to get a move on because I have to be at the venue an hour early.”
“Keyword…you.”
“Tell you what. I’m going to start the coffee, then hop in the shower…where I’ll be waiting…” I move away from Logan and climb out of bed.
“You’ll be waiting a while.”
“On my knees,” I clarify, finishing my sentence.
Logan throws the covers back, suddenly wide awake.
“What are you waiting for? I’m right behind you.”
Chapter 39
Logan
Iknow I’m going to have to tell Chase that I got fired. I just want to get through this wedding first.
I’ve processed a lot of thoughts and feelings about Stone since Chase came into my life, and I no longer spiral when I hear Stone’s name or see his face on Chase’s phone screen, but being back in his vicinity has me nervous for new reasons, and no way could I handle a rift between Chase and me at the same time as confronting Stone.
What if my feelings for Chase are just a Band-Aid? And what if seeing Stone rips that Band-Aid right off, taking the scab with it?
I’d kill myself if I hurt Chase.
Suddenly, my dress shirt is too tight, and my tie is even tighter. Pulling at the knot, I loosen the material at my neck as the electronic beep tells me Chase just locked the car, which means I won’t be able to climb inside and hide if needed.
