Ice Cubes

It was like ice and fire crashing together, the kiss. Finally, after days of staring at those lips and wondering what they might taste like. The way they moved around the words she spoke, how they tipped up as she smiled at him.

And skies above, they didn’t disappoint. Their lips molded together like hers were made for his. Soren’s tongue licked along the seam of her lips, pulling a breathy gasp from Sage as he deepened the kiss.

Soren lifted his hands, and at first, brushed a fingertip along the skin just above the waistband of her pants. Her stomach caved in at his touch, her breath going weak.

It made the predator inside him very happy.

Greedy for more, he roamed her creamy, smooth skin. When she’d pulled off her top, it had taken all he had to not end the game right there, but god, was she a sight. Beautiful, creamy swells tipped with a cherry of a nipple.

Soren wasn’t certain what was polite in the moment, but he liked this better.

Sage arched into him, her breasts brushing his chest, parting her lips for more.

Yeah, he liked this much better.

As he dragged his hands along her skin, his fingertips pulsed in the way they did when the ice inside him was becoming too much. Tendrils of cold were held back by a mere thread.

The last thing he wanted to do was scare Sage, so he kept a tight lid on it. Sure, he wasn’t some doe-eyed virgin. He’d been with women in the past, but none that knew about his powers. Soren didn’t want to scare Sage off, so he kept a leash on the very thing bursting from under his skin from her touch.

Her palms pressed into his chest, and they broke apart, chests heaving. Her skin was like fire against his palms, and he’d never wanted the warmth more.

She was so beautiful, so messy and loud and brash and perfect and everything he didn’t know he needed. Her auburn hair slipped over her shoulder, and Soren tucked the errant strands behind her ear before caressing her cheek.

Her lips were shimmering under the light, swollen from their kisses, and damn if it wasn’t a good look on her.

“Soren?” Sage asked quietly.

His gaze jumped to hers, his grip on her loosening as he sought the reason for her concern.

“Yeah?”

“Truth?” she inquired with a grin, releasing Soren’s shoulders from where they’d stationed themselves by his ears.

Soren’s lips parted as he stared down at her, relief filling him so heavily, he’d do anything she asked.

Sage rolled her lips in, mirth dancing in her eyes until she parted her lips, asking, “Besides super hearing, what other fancy, uh… abilities do you have?”

The question was so random, it rocked him, surprise surely dancing across his features. “What? Why?” That familiar panic laced through him, of showing too much of his abominable. But there wasn’t fear in her eyes as she shrugged, dragging a finger down his chest.

“Just curious.”

Soren suddenly feared he’d been found out. She somehow knew there was something off about the storm around them. A pit opened up in his chest at just the thought of her discovering it.

Tonight’s the last night, he decided right then and there.

He knew he could trust Sage. There was no reason to keep the ruse up.

“I can manipulate the… states of water, basically.”

“Can you control the temperature of it?” she asked, still staring at his chest.

“Yeah,” he answered, his worry growing. Where was she going with this?

Sage trailed her hand up… and up, threading her fingers through his hair. “So you could make… oh, say… ice cubes from the moisture in the air?”

He blinked. That was where she was going with this?
