“Oh, I’ll kill you.” She put her lips by my ear again. “But I’ll kill that little bitch of yours, too.”
“You’ll never get to her,” I scoffed. My brothers would never let that happen.
“Oh? I had no problem finding her today. And I had a chance to take her out. But I needed her alive for leverage. So here we are.”
“What? When?” My mind reeled as I realized the only place Glenda had been was therapy. “Have you been stalking her?’
“I’ve been stalking you to find her. You killed my brother and my man. I was going to find and kill her but she hardly left the clubhouse. I was started to lose my patience. At least until her little friend had beef with that cop. Disappointing it wasn’t my guys that got to her but I hear they worked her over good.”
“So it was you that went after Manny?”
“Rumors were she was moved somewhere. We found out he was prospecting for the Bastards. But that fucker wouldn’t talk.” She sighed. “Even for me when him and his little friend were creeping around, trying to buddy up with us. But what a lucky break that you of all people went looking for him.”
They must have had someone camped out, watching his house. At least now I knew he didn’t rat us out.
“My guys followed you and sure enough, said a woman was with you later. I waited around and followed you. I had to go inside and see for myself if it was her. Easy enough. Open group, no registration required. Just walked right in. Reggie told me all about her.” She gave a humorless laugh. “We thought she may be with you. Not sure why she wasn’t until recently but that doesn’t matter now. It’s no wonder why he was quick to leave her.”
“Fucking kill me then and be done with it!” I shouted. “But leave her the fuck out of this.”
“Hmmm. No,” she said with a chuckle. “I offered you a redemption. A chance for a clean slate, and to be a part of something amazing. But the fact remains you took something from me. So why would I just kill you and be done? Reggie told me you had a thing for her. That’s why she was my target.”
“She’s more woman than you’ll ever be, bitch. So just do it. Shoot me and get it over with because I’m tired of your fucking games.”
She shook her head, a fake frown turned at the edges of her red lips. “Tsk, tsk. Why did you think I’d kill you first? Of course I need you to suffer. So, I’ll offer one… more… time. Join me and save her, or don’t,” she said as she stressed the t, “and you can watch her get used up by my guys then skinned alive. What do you say?”
Chapter 33
Glenda
I didn’t take a bump from Allie but I did take a smoke. My nerves were shot and she offered, so I took it. We had no plan. It was stupid as hell to follow them, but I wasn’t about to turn around, either. I was tired of running from everything. Something happened to Leigh. I knew it in my bones. Still, the last time I was in a situation remotely similar to this, I was in the military and hadn’t started having my episodes yet. Plus, I had no clue where we were going to end up, or what faced us when we arrived.
The guys were there, or would be, wherever there was. We were trailing behind a decent amount and Allie was exceptional at following.
“Do you think they’ve noticed us?” I asked.
She blew smoke out her window. “I don’t know, but I don’t give a fuck.”
“You really like pissing him off, don’t you?” I joked. I didn’t have to say Hammer for her to know who I was talking about. She had a good relationship with Bama but did pull big sister rank sometimes. She was cool to the others. But she made it her job to get under Hammer’s skin.
“Yep.”
“Well, I’m glad you like me,” I told her as I took the last drag off my cigarette and flicked it out the window.
“I love you, girl. We’ll be cool. We’ll stay behind, get the vibe, and play it by ear.”
“I’m grabbing another.” I took my seatbelt off again and reached to the back, looking through for another pistol. She had some assault rifles, but I could hold two pistols at once. I’d need both hands for a rifle.
“Shit. Grab me one, too.”
“I can’t believe you have all these.”
“Hey, hurry up. They just made a turn. I think we’re close.”
Grabbing two, I pushed the seat down and got situated in the front. I made sure one was loaded and handed it to her. “Here you go.”
Allie slowed as she approached the turn and we rode about a quarter mile down a dark street.
“Shit.” As we got closer to a driveway, a couple of men stood, arms crossed.
