“I’m trainin’ Kenzee.”

“You’re what?” He snaps at me. I run my hand over my face as I look at him.

“I’m trainin’ her. To fight. She wanted to learn,” I tell him. He shakes his head and blows out a breath before resting his hands on his hips.

“So you’re not fuckin’ her?” Well shit. That wasn’t the follow up question I thought he would have.

“I didn’t say that.”

“So you are?”

“What difference does it make, Jenson? You’re her uncle, not her man.”

“I’m her family, Storm! The only family she has left,” he growls at me.

“Oh, that’s how it is? I’m not family then?” I ask him, trying to see how far he wants to take this.

“Fuck! That’s not what I meant. You can’t fuck her life up, Storm.”

“Not tryin’ to.” I shake my head because this is all a fucking mess now. She didn’t want anyone knowing and I can’t really stand here and admit to her uncle that I’m falling for her.

“Then what are you doin’?”

“Just what I said. I’m trainin’ her to fight.”

“Who the fuck is she fightin’?” he asks as the door opens and she walks in. Both of us look over at her. There are tears streaming down her cheeks. I want to go to her. I want to fucking hold her but I can’t.

“Kenzee? You okay?” Jenson asks her. Her eyes slowly slide to mine and hold there before she shakes her head.

Chapter 10

Kenzee

What the hell am I doing? What am I doing? I’m making a mess is what I’m doing. I’m going against everything that I’ve tried to stay away from, but Storm is right. There is something more here and I can’t deny that fact. The fucking ache in my chest when he just walked away about killed me. I don’t know why I feel this close to him already, but I know I don’t want it to stop.

My uncle walks closer to me, resting his hand on my shoulder before I pull my eyes from Storm.

“What’s goin’ on, Kenz?”

“I don’t know anymore. I…I just don’t know anymore,” I sob harder as he pulls me into his arms. He holds me when I see Storm walk away from us. He disappears down the hall as my uncle holds onto me.

“What’s this about?”

“I don’t know. I’m so torn, Uncle Jenson.”

“This about you and Storm?” he asks. I jerk back to look at him, and all he does is smile. “He didn’t say shit until I asked him. A couple of the guys have seen him leavin’ your place.”

“Are you mad?” He reaches up and wipes my cheeks with his hands while he shakes his head.

“No. I’m not mad. Storm just has a lot to deal with right now, and he just got out of prison. I just want what’s best for you,” he says.

“And you don’t think Storm is good for me?” I ask him.

“I don’t know where his head is, Kenzee. Prison isn’t an easy place to be, yeah? Things happened in there, things I can’t say.”

“Are you worried about him or me?”

“Both. I’m not sure you want this life, and I know that he’s never gonna leave it.”
