“I’m cool. I’m just thinking that’s all.”
“You want to talk about it?” she inquired.
“Not really.”
I didn’t want to discuss how my child was made from love but would be hidden due to the drama and messiness that followed behind their reveal. I couldn’t deal with that or allow my little one to experience anything other than a peaceful happy life.
“You still plan on quitting?” It was Daria’s turn to ask questions.
“Yup. I’m going to email her tonight and make sure to tell Hendrix face to face because he won’t accept it any other way.”
“Are you sure this is what you want to do?”
“I’m sure. I don’t need the money for one and two, I was there to care for their daughter. Aviana is a mother and needs to learn how to love her daughter properly. Plus, she was who Hendrix chose to have a baby with.”
“Friend… that’s not r—”
“I’m tired of talking about it.”
As soon as those words left my mouth, Dr. Wilcox was walking inside with a smile on her face. “Sorimah, I was wondering why you were here before your annual and now I know why. Congratulations girl.”
Dr. Wilcox was more like family than anything. She’d been all three of our OB/GYN since we were sixteen years old. She knew all our business and stayed calling us to check up on us. We loved her dearly for her genuine support and concern.
I put on a fake smile to match her energy and gave in to the hug she was requesting. My mind hadn’t quite shifted to being excited about this baby yet.
“Thank you, Dr. Wilcox. I guess that was all the confirmation we needed then, huh? Lord what am I going to do?” I said aloud.
“Are you unsure about this Sorimah? If so, we can talk about it for a minute and figure things out.”
I was tired of talking about this damn pregnancy. Hell, I was tired of talking altogether.
“No, I’m good. So, what’s next?”
“Well, I can give you an ultrasound today to figure out how far along you are and compare that to your last menstrual. The nurse documented that your last cycle was over three months ago. Is that true?” I nodded and she continued. “That means you are thirteen weeks from the dates you provided and have entered your second trimester.”
“She what?” Daria shouted.
“Daria, sit down child. I done told you about that hollering in my office like you crazy.” Dr. Wilcox scolded D almost every visit. She was the problem child out of us three.
“My bad. I’m shocked that’s all,” she said standing and pacing as if she was the one carrying a child.
“Like I said, the ultrasound will be compared to the dates, and we’ll know for sure by the measurements.”
I agreed and by the time I walked out of the doctor’s office, it was confirmed on how far along I was. I was ready for my bed because my thoughts were running a mile a minute, and no one was going to understand anything about what Hendrix and I created.
Vixen was where we met, my place was where the love brewed, and now we had a product of it. His consequence for stepping out on his family was the one thing that I wanted to continue to grow and love on. Although he wasn’t a married man, what we did was still wrong. Whether Aviana respected him or not, he was in agreement with her.

“I’m coming!” I shouted.
After my appointment, I came straight home and crashed. I was excessively tired and just wanted to relax. It was weird how someone was fine until they found out about their condition and then all of a sudden, the symptoms hit you all at once.
I wasn’t expecting anyone over so I was confused about who could be at my door. I checked the clock on the living room wall, and it was after twelve. That didn’t do anything but piss me off because why the fuck were they banging on my door like that.
Snatching it open, I wasn’t given any time to process who was on the other side or what was going on before I was rushed back inside. I was instantly being yelled at and it frightened me a little.
“Why the hell you not answering your phone Ri? You think this a game?”
