“Relationship? Bitch that’s yo’ man now and I feel like my godchild deserves a two-parent household,” she said rolling her eyes and neck while crossing her arms across her chest.
I couldn’t help but laugh. Daria was a whole mess, but she meant every word. Thing was, me and Hendrix acted like a couple whenever it was just us. I couldn’t get enough of him and vice versa. I was just delusional as Heather Hedley at this point.
“Would you stop and unlock that door. Clearly somebody needs to use the bathroom and we need to eat so I can make this appointment on time.”
“Okay, I just got one more question. Are you going to tell Hendrix about the baby?”
That was the one thing I hadn’t thought about. I planned on quitting because of the toxicity and drama it would bring but I never thought of telling him a thing about this baby. He had his hands full with Aviana and their daughter. It might’ve seemed selfish, but I was just protecting my peace in this situation.
“Not sure. I need time to wrap my mind around all of this first. I’m pregnant by a man that already has a family but won’t let me leave him. Loving him is wrong D, but damn when he touches me, it feels so right. I don’t want to tell him… yet.”
“As your friend, not telling him is wrong but I’ll support whatever you decide. Let’s go join these damn fools out here.”
We rejoined everyone and carried on as if we didn’t know about Fazio and his dirty ass ways. It wasn’t our place to tell Portia anything just like it wasn’t my place to tell Hendrix about his bitch. Whatever was done in the dark would come to the light and I was a product of it with this pregnancy.
We ate and parted ways. I couldn’t believe the way Portia talked about that man. She had no idea how that nigga was making a mockery of their marriage. Men like him made good women not want to deal with it because of how much they played in people faces.
As we rode to the doctor’s office, we didn’t engage in too much conversation because enough was said at the table. This world was chaotic, and I hated that I was about to bring life into it. No one knew what loyalty was and trusting somebody always seemed like the riskier thing to do. I wanted no parts. Once Dr. Wilcox confirmed this pregnancy, I planned on removing myself from the situation.
We pulled into the doctor’s office shortly after and it was like Hendrix had a tracker on me or something because he got to calling. I ignored his calls, and he didn’t take the hint. He remained calling until I answered and by that time I was aggravated.
“What Hendrix? It’s my day off, leave me alone.”
“I can’t do that. Where you at? Princess wants to hang out.”
“We can do that when I return. This is my day, and I don’t plan on spending it with y’all. Stop bothering me and stop using that beautiful one as your excuse to continuously call me. Goodbye.”
I hated that we were still messing around because he’d become possessive and overbearing. His calls and text never stopped, and I was trying to bear with him, but it was becoming too much. The cuteness of it had worn off and I was questioning what I’d gotten myself into for real.
We stepped out and the sun hit my skin once again giving me a boost of energy. I was ready for a nap and the food we devoured didn’t help either. I was ready to get this over with.
“You alright?” EJ asked as she grabbed hold of my hand.
“Yeah. He just wants to be under me, and I don’t mind his company, it’s just… allow me to breathe a little bit. Like do something with your woman for once,” I responded.
“You are his woman Ri. That man is in love with you, not Aviana. I told you from jump when you started working for them that this was going to be the result. You took a man that was big on faithfulness and turned his life upside down. How do you expect him to act?”
“That’s true Ri. From what I know about Hendrix, he’s never been involved in scandals, and he always put that hoe first in the public eye. She never had to talk bad about him because he is that one in a million man that knows what commitment means. He gives you all his time and you know it. The intimacy y’all share probably outweighs what he gives her. Hendrix is yours and he wants to be around his woman because he misses you,” Daria chimed in.
Neither one of them was making the situation better. I was a woman that got involved with a man that had an attachment to another woman. They shared a family already and I pretty much allowed him to throw away his morals all because I knew his woman was dogging him already. I should’ve taken the high road and let him be in the club, but I didn’t and now we were here.
“Let’s just get this over with so I can go home. I don’t feel like being out here today,” I said dismissing the conversation.
It had only been a few months since my first night with Hendrix and I had been locked in on that man ever since. Even if we went a month without any communication, he never left my mind and then being the nanny to his little girl only made me fall for him even more.
Hendrix was a flawed man like any other nigga out here, but he knew what he wanted, and he went after it. His excuse for not leaving Aviana seemed legit but there was always that little thing in the back of my mind that said if he wanted you for real, he would leave and be with you. I didn’t know what to do, which was why I needed this time to myself. He was going to cloud my judgment.
Walking inside, I riddled off my information to the receptionist and took a seat. It wasn’t packed so I expected my name to be called within a matter of fifteen minutes. Dr. Wilcox was big on time and tried not to hold you for too long. I waited patiently flipping through a magazine.
“Sorimah.”
“Finally,” I said standing and placing the magazine back on the coffee table.
I followed her to the back with Daria and EJ on my heels. We were ushered to a room that was spacious so there was enough room for us all to sit comfortably.
The series of questions started, and I answered them quickly. The last thing she finished up with before she went on about her business was asking me to pee in a cup so she can run a test. I fulfilled her request and returned back to the room.
“Is something wrong Ri? You look down.” EJ was so attentive when it came to me.
